Mr Kipling #BetterWithCake 2

Just before Easter Mr Kipling and BritMums sent us some cake. Sadly I lost the images I took as my phone memory card failed, but luckily I’ve got permission from other bloggers to use their snaps. YAY! Image source MaxAndMummy blog. We took our cakes on camping holiday to Devon with us. Cakes as a packed lunch snack on sunny days, or cakes with cuppas in the tent on chilly evenings.

#AfterSchoolChefs – getting back in to a routine 7

After the long summer school holidays it can be tricky to get back in to an “after school routine” again. I will admit I am far from the perfect mum, I am a lazy cook and just want food that is easy. So when BritMums got in touch about #AfterSchoolChefs with Birds Eye frozen foods I was interested. Normally Blokey cooks for me the night before and I just bung it back in the oven to feed the kiddies and me. He’s a great guy really, he irons too (no you can’t borrow him). They want to know about after school routines, well I walk with the hound to the local little school to collect Jen, it is around a mile each way. When we are nearly home Jen often wants to play on the swing that is in a tree. That takes about an hour, when we get in D […]

Oral-B

Dentists – Another of My Phobias 3

Me and dentists are never going to be best friends. I started off badly, as a child I had dental issues – I had too many teeth! I had six front teeth, not four and that’s why my front teeth look odd to this day. The middle pair are big, the the outer pair being noticeably smaller than all the rest of my teeth. I remember being gased in hospital to have the smallest set removed, clutching my teddy bear, and trying to fight the gas by talking to my Nan and Gramps.

Lonely And Cold 12

It’s not been great recently, I won’t lie. I’m done, I’ve had enough and I want out. Except I’ve no where really to go. I can’t stand Him Indoors telling me I’m useless, that I’m lazy and milking an “illness” and should get a job… in retail no less. He keeps pointing out shop work : you know, what therapist and doctors and an independent occupational health adviser agree I’m not suited for. Retail nearly saw me leap from a window. Since not “working” I’ve got in to blogging, trying to blog for good, not just personal rants or reviews. I’ve helped charities, and supported others in the “online community”. To him they are strangers, people that don’t matter. To me they are my only friends. I need them, and I hope it’s a two-way friendship that they like me back.

Brit Mums Live – Loved It 32

This weekend I attended BritMums Live! at the Brewery in London. On Friday morning I took my boys to school then I went to the train station. D was going on a school trip to Cornwall, Jen was going to stay at his Nan’s this weekend and the blokey was already in Calgary, Canada working. I had been a single mother all week and almost coped, if you ignore the day Jen was an hour late to school, and that I was exhausted as I hate sleeping without my blokey, he makes me feel safe. I need him. Anyhow, the journey. I had managed to get on to the right bus, then the correct train from the correct platform. Sat my bum down, happy. I looked to twitter to waste some journey time. One of the first things I read? “Once in a lifetime flooding, Calgary is declared a national emergency Zone. People […]

The Pre #BritMumsLive Post 42

Hiya, if you found me because you are attending Brit Mums and are having a nosey around blogs of other attendees, then welcome to my blog! I’m Julie (Obviously, sorry) and I live in Gloucester. I have two children, both boys, D and Jen. I adore my sons, but I struggle with them.   I do not hide that I have mental health issues – if I smile at you and make eye contact often but don’t speak that means I want to talk, to say “Hiya I’m Julie” but I’m too self-concious, too shy, afraid you won’t know me, and then I’ll be embarrassed even more. Once I get past that, I think I’m chatty, friendly and a good listener. Things I like include cake, coffee, chocolate, cups of tea, and biccies. And this is why I’m trying hard to lose weight now before I skydive for Matilda. Not […]

#SpecialK30 – How Things Change in 30 Years 4

Did you know Special K is 30 years old? Well it is. The lovely folks at BritMums sent me a box of new recipe Special K to try out. It’s better than I remembered, to be honest I used to hate the stuff, but I was happy to munch it this morning. So much so I might even buy it on the next big shop. This is my entry for the BritMums and Special K How I’ve changed Linky challenge. Priorities.. Cuppa, munch and Hair straighteners.   THEN.. Thirty years is a long time, I was a toddler so my memory isn’t perfect. I would have been in cloth nappies still (probably), and would have been a right handful on stairs and pavements as I was an inquisitive type. But the music was brilliant in the Eighties, and I loved leg warmers and jump rope. I wanted a chopper bike, but […]

#PKTMNYparents blogger challenge 6

I just read a blog post on BritMums asking parent bloggers to say what our children do or would do, with pocket money. So here is my entry for the BritMums and pktmny blog challenge linky. For D it’s always the same, his pocket money goes into his bank via standing order each week and he saves until he’s reached his goal. The main thing he saves up for is Lego. D is obsessed with Lego, but only likes certain ranges….the lad knows what he wants! Normally when he’s just short of the RRP of the model he wants we have to check in local shops,  then Google to make sure it’s a good deal. Last year he saved most of the year and bought himself a Nintendo 3DS in blue. He again knew what he wanted, and we searched online and in town for the best deal for him. He […]
