Jacamo clothing review by Blokey

The following review is in Blokey’s own words, and is all his own opinions. Jacamo specialises in clothes for the larger gentleman, be that larger as in tall, or larger as in “well built”. I fall into the latter category being a 5ft 10 inch, 100KG round person. I’ve been shopping at Jacamo for many years even when I weighed as much as 150KG and was obviously a lot bigger than I am now. Jacamo* is primarily an online purchase shopping experience. They have recently started to open stores (in the Midlands and in London) but none of these are local to me in the south west so I have to rely on their distant shopping experience. This means everything is purchased via their easy to use website, and delivered by a local courier company. The website is very simple to navigate, with the clothing line split into categories and each […]

Do you Love the Sales? 2

Recently Love The Sales got in touch, and I had a gander around their website. Impressed! Being a tall girl I struggle with finding things that fit, normally if online clothing shops do have a tall range it’s only a few items, and it takes AGES to hunt for something I like. It’s a website that pools together discounted products from other websites, so you can find brands you like at better prices. What’s not to like? The best thing I did on Love the Sales was search the word “tall” in the box in the top corner – Pandora’s box was opened, it was now only showing me lanky lass clothes. Then on the left sidebar I selected my clothing size, like magic I’m only seeing things in the tall ranges of several stores, just in the 2 sizes I usually buy from and if you then sort it […]

Showing my quirky dress sense

Do you remember back in winter I tested out Wingz*, well I’ve got a new set of Wingz*. Plain black in the tall range. I wear these a lot of the time under normal black tops where the sleeves just aren’t long enough for gigantic ole’me. This morning when I got dressed I was in a daft, quirky mood, decided I was wearing browns and black.

Sleeveless dresses in Winter? No problem with Wingz * 3

About a week ago something cool came in the post, Wingz. Nope it isn’t a ladies hygiene product or a travel company. Wingz are sleeves without tops, a pair of sleeves you pop on under a dress or top that is short sleeved or sleeveless. The sleeves themselves come in a few options from plain black or white jersery, delicate chiffon, lace or wild prints. If you are like me you dress according to mood and not seasons. I don’t have different “wardrobes” or store my Summer things away until after Spring. If I like it, I wear it. This is why I’ve decided I love Wingz – rather than shivering stubbornly and refusing to get changed I can wear these genius little things under my dresses. Why did I not know about these sooner! My problem now is knowing the words to use, is it a pair of Wingz, […]

Dresses and running in fields in Autumn

Recently House of Fraser were kind enough to send me a couple of dresses of my choice. Anyone that knows me in real life knows I dress quirky, one day it might be a see through dress, or a loud patterned maxi dress, the next day perhaps a mini dress over jeans or leggings. I don’t often just do normal plain clothes. My first choice was a skater dress by Koo-Ture. This is not a brand I have ever heard of, but I really like the pinafore styling of the top half of this dress. What I will say is the sizing is way more generous than I expected, meaning this dress is actually too big. If you are looking at buying Koo-Ture I’d strongly recommend ordering the size smaller than you think or order both and return one. The best bit of this dress is the weird sleeves, it […]

School uniform shopping – #GettingCoolForSchool

When I was a kid I remember getting dragged to the shops for the dreaded school uniform shop. It was my idea of hell, especially in my teenage years as back then there was no “tall” section. My lads are lucky in a way that I favour internet shopping for this, but then still moan about trying things on! They’ve got it easy, who remembers going into old department stores and being made to try on the “sample” uniform. Basically one of each size was on a special rail, they had “tester” and the size scrawled on them in chunky marker pen. I am certain these were never washed during the whole school holidays as when we went shopping (near September) the shirts were grubby shades of beige and smelled liked sweaty old socks. Gross! I remember the only good bit of back to school shopping was stationery shopping – […]

My new favourite Dress 2

A little while ago House of Fraser asked me to pick a new dress. For me that is a challenge, I’m not great at buying clothes for myself. However I had a rummage through the massive selection online – it took me about two hours, really. I am so indecisive. In the end I sent a short list and was sent a surprise from my choices. It was an adorable skater dress with huge sleeves. It is strange, its the type of thing I used to hate, it reminds me of the curtains in my late Grandparents garage but now I kind of like oranges and browns. This is a great mixture of subtle (almost boring) colours swirled into a fantastic print, but the shape is the killer. The skirt from the waist is a full circle. If I spin on the spot it will be out flat like Upsy […]

The ultimate festival backpack

It’s that time of year again, when those of you who haven’t booked your festival tickets yet, will be scraping the money together to order them soon. The summer season is full of awesome festivals, ranging from folk to heavy metal, so that no matter what genre of music you love, you can enjoy some live music in an ultimate festival experience. You never quite know what the weather will bring, with it changing from sunshine to rain and back again in a matter of hours. Pack wisely, and you can be prepared, no matter what. But, what should you take? Remember that you have to carry your stuff from the car to the site, and sometimes that can be quite a trek! Clothes You should pack light and avoid […]

Big feet are a big problem 2

As you might know I am a tall lass. As a result of this I have tall feet. Long wide feet. According to the high street shop shelves I am a bit of a freak at size 10. I can only normally get shoes from t’interweb. Sounds great? Loads of choice? Cheaper online? Wrong! Sadly it means I can’t try them on first – and sometimes I find shoesies like these.
