Oliver’s Travels want bloggers to write about funny or memorable holidays. Well Italy 2014 covers it… I bought Jen a soft toy at an Italian market, and we were walking around an Italian river town. An old fort town. Within a short while after taking this photo I was hanging over the edge of the river, one foot wrapped around the railing one hand on a boat rope and stretching like a mad woman for his teddy that’s floating downstream! This was next to a street café, and it was a flipping hot day so half the locals were sitting outside licking gelatos and laughing at me. I’m pretty sure no one, except my Jen, thought the crazy English woman was going to come back up from the edge of the water dry… think of a seaside harbour wall. I don’t think anyone thought I’d grab the toy faster than […]
My lads love drinking milk, a bit too much. Jen never really grew out of milk after being a fussy eater, we would give him milk all the time as a way to sneak nutrients in to him. Dee wasn’t half as fussy that’s for sure. Both of them still call milk “moo juice” even in shops or cafes and it can either be cute or embarrassing. At least they milk comes from cows, it’s worrying how many kids don’t know that these days. My lads have both been to farms, and although they’ve not milked the cows themselves they do understand. I grew up surrounded by farms so I’ve milked cows and goats several times as a child. Goats milk, erm, my advice just don’t! It might make good cheese but it’s not a pleasant drink.
My sons were set a challenge to make a “dream house” from Lego so they’ve been busy rummaging their toy box for cool bits. Here’s what Jen and D came up with. This single person accommodation comprises a sizeable open plan living area, a private post box, stone pathways, a long garage, and a garden with fountain, a mature tree and well kept flowers.
I have never been to Cheltenham races, even though I live so close to Racecourse. We’ve all heard of Ladies day (which is on the 11th of March this year), crazy dresses and wild hats. This year though Cheltenham are doing things differently. The best dressed fillies will be chosen solely via social media. They are calling this contest #ColourMeMarch and I’ve entered.
A couple of years ago we made the mistake of putting our boys in a bunk bed in the box room. Our home isn’t huge and it seemed a great idea to have both Jen and D sleep in the box room, and share D’s older room as a playroom. Sadly as neither truly has their own space they argue like cat and dog over territory! If you’re considering doing similar, don’t. It might be one of the worse home making decisions we ever made. They need their own space, even if one of them gets a box room.
I would love to fly around the world, show my family pretty places. Unfortunately as I am currently living off of a life insurance policy I can’t really afford it. I saw BritMums have a #Flying100 competition which is celebrating 100 years of commercial flying. What seems so normal to many now was almost unimaginable back then.
What’s #MorningWin you say? It’s a little campaign Belvita breakfast biscuits are running.
After the long summer school holidays it can be tricky to get back in to an “after school routine” again. I will admit I am far from the perfect mum, I am a lazy cook and just want food that is easy. So when BritMums got in touch about #AfterSchoolChefs with Birds Eye frozen foods I was interested. Normally Blokey cooks for me the night before and I just bung it back in the oven to feed the kiddies and me. He’s a great guy really, he irons too (no you can’t borrow him). They want to know about after school routines, well I walk with the hound to the local little school to collect Jen, it is around a mile each way. When we are nearly home Jen often wants to play on the swing that is in a tree. That takes about an hour, when we get in D […]
This evening Jen drew a monster. He has called him Bob. He is a friendly monster. He has no mouth. Apparently he is kind and cannot eat children because he has no mouth. So I asked how does he eat and Jen explained “Bob eats by squashing nasty things into his ears like flies and spiders and ants and snails. His ears have tiny teeth doors like on Venus fly plants that eat the bugs.” So he’s friendly and helpful because he’s a cute pest control monster, you don’t need to feed him as he forages under the sofa for spiders, and in the garden for flies.
Jen and D had a go at crafting with the Galt mini mosaics set. Lots of lovely sticky foam squares – think colour by numbers but a whole lot cuter. We were encouraged to join in with this competition for the little ones to create mini masterpieces. The problem with this was Jen and D loved the set so much they didn’t want to “waste” mosaic bits on it – sorry Galt, but this does mean it is a great kit. So it’s a big thumbs up from my boys. The idea was to use the mosaic squares to recreate “The Kiss” painting by Gustav Klimt. This is a very famous artwork, but I had never heard of it, sorry Klimt! Jen used watercolour paint, crayons, and wax pastels from his craft and art draw to colour in his own The Kiss. D just wanted to use the mosaics set in the proper way. This […]
In this house none of us like football, so things like the football world cup are not fun to us. So many people suddenly wearing just their countries team colours. So many “did you see that goal” comments the day after a big game. I am sorry footie fans, I just don’t get what is fun about it. To be honest I’d much rather be in warmer place, somewhere where I don’t speak the lingo. Somewhere I miss the “did you see the game last night? Shocking performance wasn’t it?” from the locals as I won’t have a clue what they are saying. Somewhere I’ve never been. Somewhere with good food and ice cream. ITALY.
The lovely Sarah has a blogger challenge competition on. I love these type of competitions, where ideas and writing them can win me nice things. Well this one caught my eye as an ex-hairdresser – £125 worth of hair kit. Count me in. For this post I am going to experiment with Polyvore, which I have never used before. So pretty please ignore any rookie/noob PV errors I might make? I think that imperfect plaits and messy flowing hair with head bands will be big. Hair ideas by julie-roo I also think that slightly crazy colourings may come back. If I was more body confident I would try the rainbow stlyes, but I also adore pastels. So a pastel rainbow could be perfect for me. Online there are lots of bright and tacky multi coloured wigs, avoid avoid, avoid! If you like this style but want to start with a […]
