I’ve wanted to go to Coombe Mill for a long time. I’m in love with the idea of going back to Cornwall and feeling happy, to reclaim my childhood and own it. I love how inviting Coombe Mill are, and how Fiona and Nick are amazingly busy all the time but I’ve never read a bad review. I’d love being in a cosy cottage or lovely lodge, surrounded by the sound of a farm again. I never was a farmer but growing up in Cornwall you were never far from sheep and chickens or the sound of a tractor. I’d love to hug all of their bunnies and farm critters, I’d like to sit outside in the middle of the night with my boys and my telescope and search for Santa in the stars. We could have proper Cornish family fun… a drive to the coast for a boxing day […]
I am writing this from a gorgeous en-suite bathroom at Lympscott cottage in Devon (thanks to HolidayCottages.co.uk), it’s a lovely bathroom but I’d rather be asleep in bed given its now 2am. I’m sat on the floor willing my stomach to calm the heck down. It’s been a great day, I gatecrashed a swim the channel challenge at Bude sea pool on Summerleaze beach, I’ve been for a 3 mile walk around a lake and gone to a quaint pub for dinner. Sadly I ate cheese at lunchtime, I thought I’d be alright but nope. During the treasure hunt lake walk my belly started to swell up to pregnant proportions and the pain built up. I’ve been cranky and a bit moany, I now feel a bit guilty. Sitting here, knowing three other people can hear me being unwell, I am praying they are asleep. I was thinking of wandering to […]
I am not a smoker but I used to be. E-cigs weren’t “a thing” when I was a smoker. One thing that never occurred to me is that nicotine might also harm my pets, and now it’s concentrated nicotine in these vapour or e-cigs then it’s all the potency of a few packets in one single cigarette sized tube of doggy poison.
At this time of year I am sure some of my readers are hoping to be whisked away by their other half. Or maybe you are the one doing the planning? Nothing beats a bit of alone time, perhaps cream teas and costal walks, or gyms and spas, maybe even sight-seeing? I’ve been thinking about places I would love to be taken to, whether for Valentines day or not, but I would love a relaxing child free break with my Blokey to be honest. The areas of the country we have spent a lot of time in over the years are Yorkshire, Devon and Cornwall, and of course Gloucestershire where I now live. Yorkshire If you like “Up North” then Scarborough is ace, I am biased though, as I have a few happy memories from my Grandparents living around there. Ox Pasture hall is a lovely looking cottage-like country house, with ivy growing up […]
This morning I received a big white box from the postman. It was recorded post too, exciting, I had to open it right away of course. This post is my entry for BritMums’ #KidsGrowWild Challenge”. I took a photo of the lovely gardening kit before the boys got their mitts on it! It had been raining most of the day, but there was a short sunny spell after cycling home from school. Perfect, I asked the boys to come outside and play. Jen was willing but I couldn’t pry D away from Mathletics on the internet. Yes, still in school uniform. We head outside with the plan being plant the seeds in flower pots and pop them into our recently purchased greenhouse to start these seeds off properly.
It’s not just celebrities that get stalked. I’ve been stalked myself. April the 18th is Stalking Awareness Day, and some people with experience on this subject will also be blogging, hopefully I will link to those from my blog shortly. I’ve gone in a bit early, we all know how forgetful I can be. My Stalker Experience It was over a decade ago, when I lived in Cornwall a man started acting odd. He was a bus driver, I simply said “Hello” one evening on the bus home, it was a half an hour bus journey in silence otherwise. It was a journey I took regularly. The bus route to and from my place of employment, not a great job, just a fast food staff person. The same bus drivers drove on each route but in shifts, so I knew their faces and names from their badges, and they […]
@travelsupermkt #JollyJourneys Competition with @Tots100 I read on Tots100 that TravelSupermarket are after travelling tips for keeping little folks busy in the back seats on long journeys. Well, this is right up my street. We drive to places like Wales, Devon or Cornwall for holidays. We are normally going camping, so the boot is often pretty full. Where we drive to, Cornwall On the longer journeys we have in car DVD players we recently purchased, but we only take a few films. Its for boredom relief if we get stuck in traffic, rather than the main entertainment option. Often we talk for the first hour or so. Car Snap is Jen’s favourite game. This means he watches every car we pass and shouts snap as fast as he can if he sees the same make or model. When we are in Daddy’s car we don’t allow the colour […]
On Monday partner, the kids and I are off to Hendra near Newquay in Cornwall. It was a cheapish holiday via the Sun newspaper £9.50 holidays offer. Of course it wasn’t £9.50 a person, more like £20 each but that’s still pretty good. We are staying in a caravan, when we booked this we had no reason to suspect snow and high winds and flooding at this time of year. Now I rarely watch the news on the telly box, but today I did and I’m a bit shocked. What on earth is going on with the Cornish weather? Eek! For now though the holiday is still on, things could improve by Monday right? Pinkies crossed everyone. These kind of cheap holidays can’t be re booked or anything unfortunately. I’m still looking forwards to this, and even bought a new swimsuit. It’s a tankini really, but matches and appears to […]
Over the years I have always tried to avoid animal testing, not just because I keep a pet bunny rabbit, but because I believe hurting animals like this is wrong. Something readers to this blog won’t know is as a teenager I used to go door-to-door in my village in Cornwall with petitions. I don’t think I was popular for doing this, Door knocking with a “ban fox hunting” petition in a very rural place that had its own hunt meet. Picture credit, LUSH It wasn’t just foxes I tried to help, was pretty much any animal campaign by Greenpeace, WWF, The RSPCA or PETA. Save the whales, no to bunny testing, free range not battery hens… that sort of thing. I still very much agree with the anti cruelty message, but I am no longer a vegetarian. I do however prefer traceable meats from proper butchers and farmers, not […]
Most summer holidays, in the last fortnight, we go away camping to Cornwall. This year we are going somewhere slightly different, Devon. Okay, it’s not massively different geographically but its much closer in time as we can get there almost entirely on the M5. The A30 is OK, until its not, and then you are stuck in long queues with no way around it. So this year, no thanks. In August we will go to Dart River camp site, near the moors. Within the camp site itself there is a few adventure playgrounds, and other cool things like canoeing, rope climbs and zorbing. Sounds pretty good as several of these on site activities are included in the price of camping. We will still be near beaches, sadly pebble beaches not sand. There will be the moorland to explore with a picnic rucksack. Something different from the city for the boys. […]
I know I’m slow, but I have just heard about the Postcards From Santa Competition. I saw it this evening on Twitter thanks to Tired Mummy of two. Mentioned it to D and he was straight to the kitchen table with his brothers pencil draw. D is more of a thinker, whereas little brother is the creative artist type. Jen saw D doing his Santa postcard, and had to join in. Sadly we were in a rush and I didn’t get an action shot of my lads colouring in, BUT I have scanned in the drawings, no mean feat this as we’d lost/misplaced the printer cable! Either that or Santa’s Elves had been asked to make it a challenge! They went to bed at 8.30 and I’ve Just got the pictures onto my laptop. Really hoping TravelSupermarket accept this without the evidence of my kiddies drawing…. but I promise its not my work. My level of artist […]
A couple of months back I booked a Sun newspaper holiday. I had told partner we needed time away, I needed time off of work and being a parent. I felt I was losing my marbles a bit by then. Ironically I was just a bit too late, if I’d got time off a few weeks earlier maybe I’d be ok at the moment not on medication and feeling lost. This will be my first time alone with him for months, December I think and that was only one night. Since then, yes I’ve been on holiday to Cornwall camping but I got the slipped disk and was still with the kids. I love the boys, but a break is very much overdue. Tommorow will be my first time out in a busy public place without partner since the breakdown. I have to pick up both boys from school and […]
