For a long while I’ve been tripping over Lego and toys and things. The Lego train set takes up lots of floor space and when Dee gets it out he hates being asked to pack it away. Well today I solved this problem, I made us an extra room. A week ago I asked on Freecycle if anyone had any carpet offcuts so I could carpet the loft as a play space for my boys. A lovely chap responded, and even delivered it to us. It was several bits of long but narrow carpet about 12ft long, but in various widths.
We have two tiny gardens. The back garden is fenced and secure but a mess thanks to the pesky (but cute) chickens. This is the state of the garden, hardly any grass and waterlogged clayish soil. With the current rain it’s boggy out there! The front garden is smaller, and with no fencing but has better drainage and supports a lawn, woohoo. It’s good enough to keep trees alive and happy.
Today after the school run I went to Coop to buy milk and bread. On my way back things got a little weird. Near school a mum is walking towards me with a large white and black rabbit, with papillon markings. He was adorable but was obvious this lady was clearly not known to the bunny, you could see this on his face. Calm and friendly but not at home. I stop her and ask is bunny lost. I was concerned for a moment might have been my Patch rabbit as he was the right size, age and markings on him were almost identical to Patch. I realised it wasn’t him, not enough white on his nose triangle, phew! My boy wasn’t in danger. The other mum asks me what I know about this bunny and I explain nothing but I was just concerned for him.The lady keeps talking. On […]
My garden is growing, alas the weeds are doing the best. We have rubbishy heavy clay soil, and despite binning the worst bits and replacing with homemade compost we still struggle to grow much more than dandelions. Each year I plant more bulbs, nothing exciting, daffodils etc. I also have the show drops and crocus bulbs I took from grandads garden after he died 7 years ago, I’ve never bought more of those, I like to know something of Gramps lives on. Every spring I will smile and remember gardening with my Gramps, and it encourages me to get a move on and get things growing. But after all this rain my strawberry plants that were limp and almost dead are now perky and standing up clear of the ground, I even spotted a few flowers on one. I love strawberries, really hope I get a good crop. We start […]
As we are planning to make chutney from our wind trashed tomato plants, I asked on freecycle for jam jars with lids and windfall apples. I didn’t get offered the jam jars but a local lady had tree surgeons out today drastically attacking her apple tree….. meaning all those apples from branches were going in a skip. That’s not right – I hate wasted food. This of course means my house will stink of boiling vinegar tonight or tomorrow as my other half gets all domesticated. Love him!
