Do you ever struggle with gifts for friends that have everything already? I do! How about a bride and groom who have been together years? There is no point getting them a toaster or some coasters. So when Oxfam got in touch about #WithOxfam I was interested. It is a campaign aimed at brides and grooms, but you could send an Oxfam Unwrapped gift for many reasons or occasions. The “gifts” are basically promises of things to help people in places of poverty – you could buy goats or chickens, perhaps fix a well, or invest in an education.
Are you struggling for inspiration for gifts? I’m going to share some gift ideas here and hopefully it will help one of my readers. Firstly presents don’t need to be something physical, they can be effort based or some kind of experience. Most people have too much stuff these days anyway. One of the family is getting a meal at a posh restaurant as a voucher from Wowcher. The good thing about this is its pre purchased at a set price, quite discounted already but it states clearly what is and isn’t included. Also check Groupon and Amazon Local. For my brother in law I’ve been tiling his bathroom. No offence to him but decoration and DIY isn’t his thing. I spent a few quid on materials but this gift will last years not just until January so you’ve got to do it properly. It’s taken me about 6 hours […]
I dislike the commercial cards and all the balloons and gimmicks that go with valentines day each year. All that money for a tacky gift, no thanks. I’m going to show you how to make a thoughtful and inexpensive gift. A stained glass effect candle jar. What you need is a jar, some tissue paper, a paint brush, PVA or Modge Podge glue and about half an hour. Firstly paint the jar in glue. Start ripping up bits of tissue and sticking bits to the jar. White is a great base colour. Mixed up with the white paper are pale pink pieces. I got these damp in a bowl of water so the ink leaks into the white.
As you know it’s Valentine’s day shortly and I want to write about Blokey, almost to him. StressFreePrint wanted bloggers to write open letters to loved ones, so here goes. The poor guy gets a hard time living with me. At times I am extremely annoying to live with, I know I am, I hear myself being horrid and cringe. But it’s too late; the nasty words are already said.
Do you struggle to find gifts for your doggy or moggies? As Freya Woof has been here with us just over a year we aren’t struggling for gift ideas. I made her a new bed, and a Christmas jumper, she’s got lots of squeaky toys and some “filled bones”. She doesn’t need a kennel, we only recently bought her new food bowls, she has a new coat, 6 or 7 Kong toys and a few kilos of treats stashed away. She doesn’t need anything, but she knows all about Christmas now. She has already been caught sniff testing wrapped gifts, almost like she’s counting up how many gifts she has so far. If you are struggling though, help is on hand thanks to MORE TH>N* and their lovely little pet present finder* app. (They call it an app, I’d call it a mini site.)
