Halloween, great for us… a bit #$^! for Doris. My little darling has been freaking out all evening due to fireworks, never far from our sides. We all went for a walk for trick or treating, 2 adults, 2 kids and 2 dogs. Freya was fine, but on one house the kids knocked on there was no answer. Seconds later we knew why, they were just lighting the fireworks in their back yard. Doris tried to run across a road dragging me behind her, I managed to hold the lead. She was wriggling all over the place and her tail was so down it was touching her chest.
This Halloween I’ve decided to do things a little different, and I have made the girls outfits. This is Freya’s third Halloween here and Doris’ first so I thought it would be sweet if they matched. I’ve altered a blue mini dress of mine to be a Star Trek TOS uniform so the hounds are also joining Star Fleet.
You would have had to have been asleep and hiding under a rock not to know it was Halloween on Friday. This means I’ve got some nice photos. We went to a local fun day. As you can probably tell Jen enjoyed it more than D.
Today was a really warm day – 22°c. It is not what you expect on Halloween really, I am used to freezing my behind off trick or treating. Today was lovely though. There was a Halloween themed family fun day up the hill so I took the boys and the woofer out for a drive. We had a go at some crafts first. The boys made badges and carved pumpkins. The boys had fun with the pumpkins, but made me do the gross bit of hollowing out the stringy bits and seeds. It feels so slimey and nasty.
As I am sure you know it’s Halloween this week. The shops are pushing sugar loaded sweets, and I didn’t want to go there. Why are the treats all confectionary, why no savoury snacks? I wanted tiny bags of cheesy biscuits but there was only the most expensive left, so I left those. What did I buy then? A packet of mixed wrapped sweets, a packet of boxed raisins, a packet of boxed yogurt coated strawberry bits and a bag of loose sprouts. Yes sprouts. When the kids grab a handful they will getting dried fruit – natures own sweets, and possibly a sprout. I want there to be a trick involved. I will peel the outer leaves to tidy them up a bit.
Today, as I bet every parent knows, is World Book Day. It is a day I often dread, and I know I’m not the only parent that struggles with WBD dress up outfits. But this year its all good, Jokers masquerade online costume shop have sent us a Batman outfit for Jen. Oddly though his school aren’t dressing up today, they are doing it tomorrow instead. Confusion followed as a few kids were in fancy dress, I felt so bad for the lad in a fluffy lion suit this morning. A photo of Jen will be added here tomorrow. The Batman outfit is made by Rubies fancy dress, which is a brand I have heard of before. It is in 3 main pieces, the all-in-one body suit, a mask with the cape attached to it, and a rubbery belt. The suit is like a big onesie, which opens at the […]
Recently we were sent Scooby Doo’s latest DVD… Ok, not that recently. Around Halloween we watched Scooby Doo Adventures – The Mystery Map. This is a new sort of Scooby Doo. It’s all puppets. Scooby Doo himself is super cute, but Daphne’s hair looks wrong to us, and a few other things don’t seem quite right. Maybe we are a little too old retro? The film lasts 3/4 of an hour, and is a about a search for a pirate treasure map, which has been snatched by “Phantom Parrot”. In classic SD style the phrase “I would have got away with it without you meddling kids!” is in there, and some other bits are on par with the original Hanna-Barbera cartoons. It’s not completely modernified.
Just a quick post to let you all know about World Vision’s Halloween campaign. They are asking we carve hearts into pumpkins, instead of spooky faces to offer hope to kids in bad places. #ANightOfHope If you do cut a heart into your pumpkin share it with the hashtag and it’ll make World Vision rather happy.
Earlier I had a little moan about D suddenly wanting a costume for WBD. Well now I have something. D is going to be Death from Mort by Terry Pratchett. He will be wearing an old Halloween basic skeleton suit (the plain black with bold basic white bones painted on), a long black cardie of mine with a hood will be the cloak, a teddy rat in one of my cardie pockets and the Pictionary egg timer in the other pocket. Then the best bit, I’m making a scythe using glue, a plastic pole and some corrugated card for the blade. Pegged together whilst the glue dries overnight. Turtle added for Pratchett fans. He’s going to look really mean! I will make sure he takes a copy of Mort in his bag just in case the teachers have not read it. I only had a tiny bit of silver paint […]
I was looking through old photos last night and found some photos I wanted to share. These are taken on the ONLY time my Dad has met my sons. I nearly cried looking at them…….. These were taken on Halloween 2009. Its now 2 years since then, and he hasn’t come to see us. I can’t contact him as he doesn’t tell me his address, email or phone number. I love being the unwanted unplanned child, really, I do. I’ve only seen this brother and sister once except the meeting photo’d here which hurts aswell to be honest. This meeting only came about as I found an old phone number and phoned him, D had been asking lots of awkward questions “Who is your Dad?” “If he’s my grandad why has he never met me?” “is he embarrassed by me Mum?” and so on. I gave my Dad an ultimatum […]
