For the last fortnight I’ve been a bit wobbly. I had told myself was nothing, just nerves about going to London, about Blokey being in Canada and about the driving test. I was wrong. It’s been getting worse, so I begged for a doctors appointment. I get Labyrinthitus a few times a year but this didn’t feel quite like that. The doctor said its BPPV or benign p-something positional vertigo. Different types of vertigo on NHS choices site explains the differences medically. How it feels to me… It’s like being stood on a boat, rocking and swaying constantly in the tide. I sway even when sat down. To be honest I still feel I am moving now, as I type this in from my bed. It is unpleasant, very. I feel sea sick and on dry land. Walking is a challenge as it really steals your balance, I would definitely […]
Well, after the eBay fuss I bought some catapult latex/elastic straps and searched hedges for a decent stick. Bingo, a windy evening and the next morning I was spoilt for choice. You need there to be a symmetrical Y shape in the wood, if it’s wonky it still works but the aim is all wrong. Sawing the branch into a Y shape. Yes, I know I know, chicken runs are not ideal work benches. You need to cut the “handle” end to be about the length of a brand new pencil, and the two angled branches a little shorter.
I read something on T’internet tonight I had to share, Darren of OD3G blog has started an e-petition in response to more graphic images being on the front pages, making them hard to ignore, and lets be honest you can’t unsee the woolwich murders covered in blood once you’ve seen it can you? What’s the problem? Well children actually, I don’t want my child to see decapitated soldiers, or murders or the moment a pressure cooker bomb exploded or piles of bodies covered in cloth after flood/earthquakes. Nor does Darren, and he has a point. The Front Pages petition can be found here.
Hello world, The kind folks at B-Sensible have been in touch, and I’m happy to say are offering Julie’s Notebook readers a chance to win a bed sheet in their choice of size and colour. Size is a boring decision but colour, well, B-Sensible have loads of choices. The best thing about these bed sheets is that it’s waterproof and still breathable. This is awesome for children that wet the bed. The second best thing is the environmentally friendliness.
So I love gardening, but gardening does not love me back. I try my best but I often kill plants or the seeds themselves never grow. Well not anymore, I have a greenhouse at last, despite having had a garden of our own for about 7 years. The front garden is the sunny place, but due to the open, unfenced nature of the front we have had to stick it on the patio in the back garden. In the back garden it only gets direct sunlight from dawn until about 2pm but this seems to be enough. It’s never hot in there, but it is much warmer in there than outside next to it. The plan is grow tomatoes and veggies we use often in there according to my partner. But as I’m paying for the greenhouse you’ll see it’s full of my flower pots. All the bulbs in the […]
It’s way past bedtime and here I am, wide awake and trying to ignore the urge to tidy the house. Can I sleep now. Today, well technically yesterday, I went to the weekly Psychotherapy appointment but this time I broke down in tears. A snotty, damp red faced mess. Gawd how much I wanted a hug then, but can’t hug or even shake a doctor/therapists hand. He had me explain why I feel such overwhelming desire to “protect the youngest” in most situations, why my eldest resents me. Why I’m always so self negative. What happened at the boys births and how I said goodbye to D at five days old and telling him to look after his Daddy, because a doctor told me I’d die by morning. How I thought I’d die if I was pregnant again. How I hate myself for being a rubbish mum. Being disappointed in […]
Righty, I am thinking of ways to help with the skydive sponsorship for the Team Matilda Mae jump and I have a cunning plan. I offered advertising space on MRB to small companies in return for donations to my just giving page, but I have not yet had any takers. (If you are a blogger, or a business and this sounds tempting there is a link explaining it all on my left sidebar along with the Skydive badge) I’ve had an idea… What I am thinking is I try to source a few prizes to giveaway on MRB and I do an online raffle. So companies could donate a prize and I would link to the company’s website from my blog, MRB readers could enter to win prizes by making a donation on my just giving page, or by TextGiving by texting “JSKY99 £1″ to 70070. (The minimum donations that are set by […]
We would love to move to a better house but at the moment we can not afford to so I’ve been trying to fix what I can. I figure this makes the house more valuable, so when we can eventually afford to get a new house this place should sell at a fair price. Today I ripped up the carpet and underlay and nailed plywood over the damaged floor boards. It had been squeaking and creaking awfully. I knew the wooden boards were damaged but was surprised just how bad they were. Complete cracks through some of them. Sadly the boards are a non standard size and we were told would have to modify normal boards, I do not have the skills, cash or power tools. So I decided on lining the floor with ply so it would spread the weight across weak and strong boards, making it safer and less […]
Over on Tots100 they are hosting a blogging competition with Bathshop321 with the chance to win a new bathroom. Count me in! I’ve had a look over on the website and this is the suite I like… Picture from Bathshop321 We haven’t had much luck with bathrooms, remember the disaster of a bathroom I blogged photos of recently? We had a decent quality bathroom and paid for quality fixtures, and for it to be installed by their men, approximately £5000 and it wasn’t even done right! A fresh start would be awesome, rip out anything that reminds me of the local cowboys. We could keep the wall covering and the ceiling light, and my little mirrored bathroom cabinet, but everything else could go. Ok, maybe I would keep the shower as it is already installed in to the wall, but everything else needs to go! I would like everything removed, […]
I need work, whilst I don’t think I can hold a normal job at the moment, the classic 9-5 is not right for me I do need some sort of income, sooo.. Here goes.. Typing away…. I have been out of work since October with depression and mental health. This in no way stops me writing or blogging but definitely impacts on my daily life, in particular speaking to people in person is very hard for me and leaving my house alone. Yesterday my partner also got bad employment news. We thought he was lined up to be made redundant, which wouldn’t have been great news, but there would have been a redundancy payout by the company so that would have actually been OK. What his bosses have done instead, is to demote him, including a pay cut as his job is “no longer needed”, and to keep his notice […]
Little Jen as I recently mentioned might look cute but he is making bedtime hell in this house. Most nights Jen refuses to go to bed, sleeping anywhere except his bed. Most nights this means he’s asleep on the sofa after an argument. If I get him into bed chances are he will cry in the night and come into my room… Then there’s the bed wetting. Yup, that’s still going on! In the battle of wills, he definitely inherited my stubbornness, and often he wins not me. I’m getting tough now though, I have a nice man who has been visiting me to help improve my parenting skills. He is teaching me how to keep chilled even when the boys are throwing strops. The social worker suggested he come and help me, and yay! When Jen gets out of bed in the middle of the night sometimes I even […]
Earlier I had a little moan about D suddenly wanting a costume for WBD. Well now I have something. D is going to be Death from Mort by Terry Pratchett. He will be wearing an old Halloween basic skeleton suit (the plain black with bold basic white bones painted on), a long black cardie of mine with a hood will be the cloak, a teddy rat in one of my cardie pockets and the Pictionary egg timer in the other pocket. Then the best bit, I’m making a scythe using glue, a plastic pole and some corrugated card for the blade. Pegged together whilst the glue dries overnight. Turtle added for Pratchett fans. He’s going to look really mean! I will make sure he takes a copy of Mort in his bag just in case the teachers have not read it. I only had a tiny bit of silver paint […]
