Trespass or Inconsiderate Neighbours? 1

This morning I woke in the night, as I often do. Still a bit sleepy I walk in to my kitchen for a drink, not bothering to turn on the lights as I can see enough from the orange glow of a nearby street lamp. I bent down to retrieve a clean and slightly warm mug from my dishwasher and I catch movement out of the corner of my eye. A woman is in my garden, walking past my window. I see her eyes towards me, shes looking in to my home, I duck but keep watch. Then a second shadow sneaks past. I hear whispered voices. They are standing still, in my front garden, right at my front door. I feel frightened. I shout loudly to Blokey upstairs “there are people in our garden” and I run upstairs to look from a safer place. Its not like opening my […]

Johnson’s Baby Easy Rinse Shampoo 2

I was recently asked if I would like to review JOHNSON’s baby easy rinse foaming shampoo with Jen. I know it’s called “baby” shampoo but I’ve been using it myself too, and it smells rather nice. It comes in a little pump action bottle that makes it foam lots like the hand-soap in public loos. Jen likes it mostly because it is fun, I like it because he wants to wash his hair! Until recently he was keen on being clean, baths, showers, paddling pools or hosepipes… he was not fussy.

Bad Start 1

Well what can I say, today didn’t start off great. I struggled to sleep again last night, and I’ve never been much of a morning person anyway, but this morning I didn’t see or hear my alarms. I have various alarm clocks, all set at slightly different times. First thing I see or hear today, not the alarms, but Blokey in a bad mood demanding I wake up now. He’s one of those people that wake up and *boom* he’s wide awake. I am not like that. I go through stages almost, starting off barely awake, slow and confused, I gradually realise I’m awake, and try to fight sleep, then eventually after about 30 to 40 minutes of being dazed I wake properly and stumble to the loo and brush my teeth. From then I’m ok, awake even if I’m feeling exhausted from good or bad dreams the night before. […]

Off On Our Hols 1

I am typing from the M5 – no one panic, I am not the driver! We are off camping for a fortnight, and when we go camping it’s more like “glamping”. We have our new Vango Airbeam With extension porch, and a “footprint” and carpets. This is not just a tent, it is bigger than our garden. We do not have a big garden, but still! Best bits are it has inflatable tubes instead of fiddly fibre glass rods. The main structure is up in minutes as it has a powerful pump. It takes longer to peg in the guide ropes than put the tent up. Last big camp we still had our Vango Sungari, which although it was a lovely tent for a family it was a nightmare to put put. It resulted in arguments every single time we set up camp. We decided last time that enough was […]

How To Make A Blog Badge 1

Firstly find or make yourself a “badge” – Badges can be various sizes. Sadly there doesn’t seem to be a standard size, but think about what works nicely in your blogs sidebar. Might I suggest 125 x 125 pixels, or 200 x 150 pixels. If it is too big other blogs might not want to use it. Find an image that suits your blog, think about the colours and style. If you blog is all in pastels you don’t want a dark image really, you want it to remind readers about your site. If your blog is about baking use a cake photo rather than a photo of yourself or your pet! Also if you use a certain image as you blog header already, edit this to the required size to use something familiar to your readers as your badge. My example below is a photo of my own notebook, cropped […]

What A Difference A Day Makes!

Yesterday Jen was being cute and chatty. Today he’s been stamping, screeching and trashing things. I removed the cardboard box (from my other post) so that I could attempt to tidy the front room. It was at a point I could no longer cope with the mess…. Then he poured his drink of water over his hotwheels track, proudly announcing “My cars can skid now!” I wasn’t as impressed by this as he was expecting. That was the final straw, a soaking wet carpet. “Please tidy up now. You knew water play is for the garden or bath.”

Benefits Vs Privilege

The lovely Eliza had a bit of a rant at the weekend, she calls this “Sunday Soapbox” and if you haven’t read it, I really think you should. http://www.mommatwo.com/2013/07/sunday-soapbox-privilege.html Sunday Soapbox. Privilege. Few things anger me more than the privileged few telling the rest of us what we’re doing wrong. Those who are born into money, a comfortable lifestyle, who have easy access to everything that makes life more enjoyable, to a good education, to support and success, and to employment and more of the same in adulthood, do not understand poverty. They do not understand poverty. They do not understand the difficulties that people in their own towns and cities are living with, right now. They do not understand that being poor is not a choice that people make because they are lazy. They do not understand that for some further education is not an option. They do not understand that […]

Big Night In – Mice, Chips and Cluedo 4

The lovely folks at MoneySuperMarket let me and my boys participate in another blogger challenge. Thanks guys, you are EPIC! #msmBigNightIn For this challenge they kindly wired (ok PayPal’ed) me Fifty Squids to spend on a family night in. We bought two retro board games that Blokey and I liked as kids, with the plan being fish and chips from the nice local takeaway. So at Blokey’s knocking-off time at work we phoned him to give him our dinner orders to get on his drive home. Jen wanted jumbo sausage and chips, Blokey, D and I all had haddock and chips. The fish was huge, too big, felt wasteful. And a bottle of coke, the real coke not an own brand version as its a treat.

Retail Royalty Challenge – Helping Charity for Free 4

When I read that MoneySuperMarket wanted to give bloggers £30 to spend on a local charity, I jumped at the chance. The idea is us bloggers get a budget of £30 (given to us by MoneySuperMarket for this challenge) but we have to try to buy more than £30’s worth of gifts or items that your local charity would like. Maximum benefit of the cash if you like! They’ve called this the #RetailRoyaltyChallenge and the winner gets a massive Harrods hamper, which I wouldn’t mind but to help a charity for free, I already feel like a winner. I decided that I wanted to help Cheltenham Animal Shelter (I’m abbreviating to CAS), you might have noticed I do love my pets, all six of them! I had a look around the Cheltenham Animal Shelter website : gawa.org.uk and discovered they had an Amazon Wishlist so had a look through at what I […]

Jen Gets Muddy #KidsGrowWild 10

This morning I received a big white box from the postman. It was recorded post too, exciting, I had to open it right away of course. This post is my entry for BritMums’ #KidsGrowWild Challenge”. I took a photo of the lovely gardening kit before the boys got their mitts on it! It had been raining most of the day, but there was a short sunny spell after cycling home from school. Perfect, I asked the boys to come outside and play. Jen was willing but I couldn’t pry D away from Mathletics on the internet. Yes, still in school uniform. We head outside with the plan being plant the seeds in flower pots and pop them into our recently purchased greenhouse to start these seeds off properly.

Other Parents Children At The Park 7

Today was pretty much the last straw. A child I’ll called Jamie (because it’s the only unisex name I can think of right now) follows my sons and I everywhere. It’s not just following, Jamie bosses us around, *do this, I want to do that, put my on the ride*. Sounds ok, now imagine you’ve waited ten minutes for both swings to be empty because your youngest wants to “race mummy on the swings” and the second we sit down Jamie appears “my turn.” trying my very best to stay calm I say “My son and me are playing, please wait” so Jamie just asks again and again and a-flipping-gain! I have to walk away, we go to a different toy, a climbing wall. Guess what, yup! Jamie tries to push in and tells me “lift me up” so I suggest to my lad we do the zip wire, yes, […]
