The chicks #MySundayPhoto 7

My hens aren’t best pleased with this heat. Tikka (the ginger one) is soaking wet as I gave her a hopepipe shower to clean and cool her off. Anneka (the dark brown one) had a little hose down, but I couldn’t catch up with Edwina (the grey and white striped one) to clean her. Linking up to the #MySundayPhoto  linky.

Friday after school 4

Last week was a bad week. Got a bit of bad news from the police. Partner had a car crash. Train station staff refused me travel for over two hours in London so got home at bed time. Having a bad night, then one parent said “What’s wrong Julie?!” in the playground and I broke down and cried on her shoulder for an hour. Freya Woof got Tikka and the poor hen nearly died. Tail-less but mainly feather damage, with some nasty cuts and bruises. I’ve got 3 types of chicken medicines on the go right now trying to help her. I was convinced she’d go in her sleep on the first night, but she’s hanging on in there and has started nibbling on food. Anywho after a week of something going wrong every day I went to the park with Jen and Freya after school. I tied Freya to […]

Welcome to Anneka and Edwina 7

Tikka the chicken was struggling and lonely since Freya Woof “got” poor Fajita. So yesterday we drove a few miles into the countryside to a farm to get a few more chickens. That was the plan, a few small, cheap chickens. The hens the boys chose were not cheap. I should have said “No way” at the prices, but the boys had decided and I didn’t have the heart to refuse. £35 each!! Ah well, it’s done now.

Goodbye Fajita 3

Today Freya Woof learnt to open the back door handle. Today she did this as I was in the garden feeding our chickens. She got Fajita, and I got to them so fast. I screamed at Freya and lifted my hand (a warning not being mean), she loosened her grip, but didn’t let go. I snatched my poor hen. Freya had her only by feathers at this point, so I inadvertently plucked a few more feathers from Fajita. Both our chickens ran for the house for safety and I got Freya’s collar and walked her to her crate for “time out”. I have kept them separate until this scuffle, and Freya is never allowed in the back garden.

The Pre #BritMumsLive Post 42

Hiya, if you found me because you are attending Brit Mums and are having a nosey around blogs of other attendees, then welcome to my blog! I’m Julie (Obviously, sorry) and I live in Gloucester. I have two children, both boys, D and Jen. I adore my sons, but I struggle with them.   I do not hide that I have mental health issues – if I smile at you and make eye contact often but don’t speak that means I want to talk, to say “Hiya I’m Julie” but I’m too self-concious, too shy, afraid you won’t know me, and then I’ll be embarrassed even more. Once I get past that, I think I’m chatty, friendly and a good listener. Things I like include cake, coffee, chocolate, cups of tea, and biccies. And this is why I’m trying hard to lose weight now before I skydive for Matilda. Not […]

Vanish Powder Versus Tikka Stain 2

A little while ago bzzagent sent me some Vanish oxi-action to try out. I figure I should have posted photos ages ago, I’ve been using it on anything awkward before going in the washing machine or just bunging as scoop in the soap draw. I’ve found it not only shifts or helps lessen the appearance of visible stains, but fades smells lingering in fabrics better than washing powder does. For example towels I’ve used to dry the pets after a wash often smell horrid despite a wash. The staining. Fresh home made Tikka masala. This has ruined my boys clothing in the past. Rubbing in some Vanish and water paste. Amazing, no curry! Big thumbs up here. I recommend it for school uniforms. I’m a bzzagent, this means I’m part of a product testing panel. I wasn’t asked to post this blog, but I was given the product to try […]

Tikka And Fajita Are Pushing Their Luck… 1

The chickens and the less than friendly bunny have had lots of time to get acquainted but only this week have they been allowed free range at the same time. Until now the bunny has been free in the evening and night times, and the chicks have been loose by daylight. They’ve been giving it a bit of attitude through the cage wire. It’s weird that now I’m letting them loose at the same time there have been no major fights and no blood shed whatsoever! If you knew Patch rabbit you would realise this is shocking. 😛 Ignoring the mess that my garden is in I think these photos are pretty cute. Patch rabbit is Letting the girls steal his food. Almost ignoring it. Awww the cute bunny is mellowing in his old age. He’s watching the chickens closely but resisted the urge to run and steal his food […]

Christmas wish list for my Pets, GJW Titmuss blogger challenge

I saw via Twitter a blogger challenge to create a dream stocking of £200 for your pets. The main rule is any items from the site, but not more than £200, I’ve managed to get just pence under that target. The details are here on GJW Titmuss website. I think its a really generous competition, and I’m tempted by some of the items on the website. Below I have copied my basket. We have 4 pets. Dotty, a very elderly rescued Guinea pig, Patch the rabbit, and Tikka and Fajita our young hens. Tikka and Fajita are in a brand new home, unlike Patch and Dotty. Dotty lives in an old and slightly damaged indoor cage in my living room, he was outside for a short while but he is very much in need of company and was distressed outside. He would love a new home I’m sure, I have […]

Chickens update

Well its freezing where we live, frost over night and between 2 and 6 degrees in daylight. Despite that Tikka just started laying eggs. Fajita has been laying about 3 weeks now. The paler ones are from Tikka and the normal coloured one is Fajita’s. This looks boring, but to my boys it was exciting. The first egg from home, cooked for lunch one day last week. (others have been used but as ingredients so they didn’t notice) The girls have settled in completely now, and are pretty confident except when it comes to the neighbours cat. This moggy is not learning its unwelcome despite water pistol and Nerf gun attacks from the boys and I. Not just random mean-Ness I should add, but purely in defence of our hens. The girls make a different noise when cat comes into our garden, they sound like ducks! It’s effective though, as […]
