30 ways to save £1 4

I saw +Jax from Liveotherwise blog about this great competition from Money supermarket and knew I had to enter. It’s called 30 ways to save £1, and the great thing about this competition isn’t the huge prize money, it is that they will give you £1 per tip, if you publish your own post on this topic before 17th of May, so what are you waiting for?   Pounds, Quid, gold pieces, dosh!    The first tip has to be, enter this competition yourself as soon as you have read this post! Always make sure you use the food with the shortest dates first. Throwing out a few items a week could cost you several pounds. Wash your laundry at 30 degrees when you can to save a little bit in electric bills. Try to save a little bit of gas and water (so dosh too) by shortening you shower by […]

The Scent of Spring. A Zoflora Review 2

Zoflora have seen me a bottle of their Spring Time fragranced concentrated disinfectant 3 in 1 action. This comes in a small carton with a little bottle in, the thing is you make up the solution with water yourself at home, so this little bottle makes nearly 5 litres of cleaning fluid, its much easier to carry a small package home than a few litres of ready mixed cleaners. Image from Zoflora.co.uk The instructions say you mix it at 1 to 40 ratio in water, so grab yourself a 1 litre spray bottle (my spray bottle below was one I had in the garage, and had only ever been used with plain tap water to water house plants). Add in 25 ml of Zoflora (approx a fifth of the bottle) then top it all the way up to 1 litre with water, if my maths is correct this is 1 […]

Vanish Powder Versus Tikka Stain 2

A little while ago bzzagent sent me some Vanish oxi-action to try out. I figure I should have posted photos ages ago, I’ve been using it on anything awkward before going in the washing machine or just bunging as scoop in the soap draw. I’ve found it not only shifts or helps lessen the appearance of visible stains, but fades smells lingering in fabrics better than washing powder does. For example towels I’ve used to dry the pets after a wash often smell horrid despite a wash. The staining. Fresh home made Tikka masala. This has ruined my boys clothing in the past. Rubbing in some Vanish and water paste. Amazing, no curry! Big thumbs up here. I recommend it for school uniforms. I’m a bzzagent, this means I’m part of a product testing panel. I wasn’t asked to post this blog, but I was given the product to try […]

Mothers Day at my Place 3

It didn’t start perfect, Jen wet his bed in the night, thankfully his bed has special sheets on and it worked well (a review on that to follow soon). So in the night he came into my bed when I was asleep, the smell of wee woke me, at which point was too late as he’d been lying in my bed for long enough to let his soaked pjs get my bed stinky and wet. Lovely… First task of mothers day, lots of washing including both quilts.Wish he’d stayed in his bed. When I woke this morning I was greeted by an almost naked Jen waving a box of chocolates at me, suggesting I forget breakfast and eat these. I obliged of course. Would be rude not to! Shortly after this partner appears with a mug of coffee and D comes in with this… I love trees. I’ve run out […]

Review of Dr.Beckmann laundry products

Recently Dr.Beckmann were kind enough to send me a few products to try. Dr.Beckmann Colour & Dirt Collector First of the products I tried was the washing sheets. These catch colours that end up in the water so it doesn’t soak in to other items. I was a bit sceptical of these and have seen them for sale in shops before. The thing is we have many items we wash separately as they are multi coloured and don’t match pale or dark laundry loads, such as our rugby shirts. These are navy blue, bright red and white cotton. A colour run nightmare waiting to happen.I mixed these items all in one load…. Pale, bright vivid colour and black! I would never mix these colours normally.Action…. Blurry action…Very pleased to say my Elmo pj top didn’t get ruined! And final photo to show you some used sheets versus an unused one. I wasn’t […]

#TeamHonk sent me a postcard 5

Penny, Tanya and Annie are in Ghana with Jonathan Ross and Davina McCall for comic relief. It’s the 25th anniversary this year and they are doing lots to promote it. I can remember 1988 when it started, I was rather small and the red noses were just plain, no hair or faces, or even sticky out tounges. For some reason in that first year the noses smelt like cheap washing up liquid, and they really pinched your nose. Its come along way and #TeamHonk are out there, in Ghana, to show what really happens with red nose money not just the daft things that earnt the money like when my teachers bathed in baked beans, and shaved one side of his beard, moustache and hair, then made worse by having the remaining hair dyed red! Some of the stunts I remember from school were worth giving my pocket money for, […]

Christmas is like Marmite

Christmas is like Marmite, but I can’t decide if I love or hate it. On the love side I’m in love with the almost romantic idea of Christmas, family being together. Children getting presents, adults eating posh food and falling asleep during the Queen’s speech… advent calendars and decorated trees. Does all sound lovely….But in reality, I suck at Crimbo. I’ve no idea how to make it feel like Christmas anymore. Everything has got so commercial, spend spend SPEND. Kids all bragging on end of term about whose parents spent the most, and how big their tree is, and that their uncle Steve always gives them £30 in his card. Where is the love? Personally I struggle and we try really hard to afford nice things for the boys. This year by “couponing” we got D something on the top of his Xmas wish list (ransom note). It’s a Lego train […]

Camping checklist 1

Morning folks, as I recently wrote I’m going camping very soon. Sunday in fact, its come around fast. I don’t know about my blog readers but I always feel we have forgotten something, so I’m going to write a list hopefully others might find helpful. I know we aren’t typical campers as we move in for a fortnight on site, so for shorter trips you can do away with much of this. Things to do before you go….Empty fridge of anything open/perishable. Try to take with you or freeze instead.Wash up and empty dishwasher so doesn’t smell stagnant when you get home.Have UHT milk in cupboard and bread in freezer so you don’t need to shop on way home.Do as much washing as you can so its not left dirty.Arrange someone to feed pets.Clean pet’s hutches before going.Unplug everything except fridge, freezer and TV digi box / sky so can […]

This water shortage 2

Evening folks, I very rarely watch the news anymore because of having internet. Anyways, tonight I watched the news and they were banging on about water shortages. It’s an important issue, but they tend to just try to get the phrase “hosepipe ban” on air as often as then can. This doesn’t help! Simple things we can all do:Don’t overfill the bath.Have showers if possible.Turn tap off when brushing teeth.Use the half flush button on your loo.Fit a Hippo flush or similar.Water garden using rainwater butts.Plant bulbs not seeds (they seem to handle drought better).Water from boiled veg is good plant food.Use Eco programs on washing machines. Add your own tips as comments if you wish….

Hello from the Great Outdoors

Hello bloggers. Well here I am writing from my tent again.Today we went to Porthcothan beach (Padstow ish if you care to check a map). We adore this beach. It’s got RNLI lifeguards on the beach all day, they are very reassuring to see when you are on the beach with small folk. So today we were going to have a packed lunch on beach, totally disrupted by wasps. Lucky my son was paying more attention than me, a wasps landed on edge of my sarnie as I was busy talking between bites. So glad little Jenny yelled “Mummy no, its got a waspy on it” or I would likely be in local hospital. I’m not properly allergic, but I do swell significantly and a sting in mouth/throat area would affect breathing. That’ll teach me to talk so much eh? After lunch we zipped everything into my lovely camouflage Gelert pop-up tent […]
