It should come as no surprise to regular readers of this blog that I adore my dog. Well Freya Woof hates the cold, and being a Saluki she really is not built to cope with the cold weather. She certainly lets us know when she is cold too, dragging her bed so it’s in front of the newly fitted fireplace or burying herself underneath Jen’s duvet with her head on a teddy. She is such a big baby. Well there are things you can do to help out chilly hounds. Coats and jumpers are the easiest way, but not all dogs like them. You could always put a hot water bottle under your hounds bed, blanket or basket but these don’t stay warm very long. Don’t fret, PetShopBowl has you covered. Hill’s ideal balance – PetShop 3

This week Freya Woof has been trying out Hills Ideal Balance dog food courtesy of PetShop. After a slow change from her normal food to Hills I can confirm the woofer hound likes the “chicken and brown rice” variety of Hills ideal balance dry food. The food is in the form of lots of small circular shape biscuits. It looks a bit boring, all the same colour and size. Her usual brand Wagg is all different shapes and colours but it turns out Freya is not bothered by the shapes or colours.

Our silly but adorable Freya came to live with us one year ago. During that time she’s also moved into our hearts, not just our house. Rather than asking “How are Jen and D?” if I’ve been out, it will be “How are my boys and Freya?” I would be so lost without her now, she is like a third child. She still has her quirks, but she has obvious strong points too. She has learnt to play. She knows children are more easily hurt and plays differently with them, slower and cautious but not frightened. She let’s me wash her with little drama, she still bites the flea comb afterwards though.

Oh I love to womble, to collect things others bin or dump that could be useful. For example when there is a jacket left in the park and it’s soaking and muddy I will take it home to wash it then it goes in our charity bag. If I don’t the council “street cleansing team” will bag it and bin it. I hate pointless waste I really do. When charity bin bags get thrown into a road and get all muddy and run over, I lug that lot home and pop it to a charity of my choosing. My son D calls it stealing, but abandoned things are destined just for landfill. Well this afternoon I was pleasantly surprised to see an abandoned dog crate on a pavement nearby with other scrap metal.

Yes, a mistreated abused dog I saved returned the favour and saved me. I figure it’s time to tell you all about Ben the dog. I was quite young, I would say junior school age. I noticed a neighbour had a new dog, a small puppy with a curly tail, but he was bought as a gift by the Dad of the house for the very pregnant Mum of the house. The Mum already had her hands full with a small and unruly daughter. Ben was losing weight as the Mums’ priorities were elsewhere rather than feeding and looking after this needy pup she had been given. It was a burden she didn’t want or ask for, I understand that. Freya Woof is a lucky little hound. She is one of the first Waggers in the country to try Wagg’s new dog food. It hits the shops from tomorrow. She loves Wagg food and treats but sometimes gets bored and fancies a change so we have been mixing her normal dry Wagg food with half a tin or carton of wet dog foods for a month or two. So what will Freya think of this new munch?

The last few months I have seen so much negativity regarding rescued dogs, in particular it seems to be frowned on if you have children. Just look at the comments underneath online newspaper stories about dogs. Well I have a rescued dog, Freya, and I have two children. I am such a bad parent for this, allegedly. I do not understand why people brand all rehomed dogs that have had a bad start as bad dogs. They are not. Some are, most aren’t, but like people you do occasionally get lunatics.

PetShopBowl – a review 5

Pet Shop Bowl recently sent me a parcel for the fluffy residents of my home. For the little critters (Bart, Mo, and Patch the rabbits, and Harry the guinea pig.) Hay – All little herbivore rodents should have hay. My Patch is a strange old guy and prefers to eats paper and straw, he doesn’t like hay. But then we all know a child that will not eat green vegetables. Patch is jolly old though at 10 or 11 years old now, I wouldn’t recommend paper and straw as a diet, but it’s not stunted his life expectancy. When we bought Patch we were told his breed of bunnies live around 6 years, hmmmmmm.
