Just Arrived at Hendra in Newquay 2

First impressions of the outside of our caravan, home for the next few days, wasn’t marvellous. They are all beige and uniform distances apart. Then we walked inside, pleasantly surprised! Some of the fitted furniture is better than the furniture in my house. Home from home I decided to bring some of our own bed linen to avoid an extra charge, and at least I know its washed in decent detergent if I’ve done it myself. I also took the Brolly sheet which you can’t see but it’s under Buzz Lightyear. The boys made themselves comfortable! Then we had pizza and a pudding pizza which I thought was great. 😀 yummy! Thanks Morrisons, never had a pudding pizza before, but it’s awesome. Now we are at the club bar ready for kiddy entertainment to start. Cheesy music but holiday parks are meant to be cheesy aren’t they. Here is the Caravan […]

Off On a Short Break 3

On Monday partner, the kids and I are off to Hendra near Newquay in Cornwall. It was a cheapish holiday via the Sun newspaper £9.50 holidays offer. Of course it wasn’t £9.50 a person, more like £20 each but that’s still pretty good. We are staying in a caravan, when we booked this we had no reason to suspect snow and high winds and flooding at this time of year. Now I rarely watch the news on the telly box, but today I did and I’m a bit shocked. What on earth is going on with the Cornish weather? Eek! For now though the holiday is still on, things could improve by Monday right? Pinkies crossed everyone. These kind of cheap holidays can’t be re booked or anything unfortunately. I’m still looking forwards to this, and even bought a new swimsuit. It’s a tankini really, but matches and appears to […]

Overgrown and neglected 2

This is the path we use daily. Overgrown, unloved and used as a rubbish dump. I don’t understand why the people who technically own these garages don’t reclaim them. It’s such a waste of space. It could be so pretty with some love. If people see rubbish on the floor they add more rubbish. Sometimes it’s household bin bags, ripped open with nappies pouring out. I don’t understand why a parent would dump their child’s waste in a place they probably push his buggy through? It’s a mess right, no hope? This is the view if you look through the fence…I’m seriously tempted to wild plant this area, like I suggested on the “help our bees” post the other day. Does anyone have any unwanted bulbs? 😉

Devon Camping is Booked 3

Most summer holidays, in the last fortnight, we go away camping to Cornwall. This year we are going somewhere slightly different, Devon. Okay, it’s not massively different geographically but its much closer in time as we can get there almost entirely on the M5. The A30 is OK, until its not, and then you are stuck in long queues with no way around it. So this year, no thanks. In August we will go to Dart River camp site, near the moors. Within the camp site itself there is a few adventure playgrounds, and other cool things like canoeing, rope climbs and zorbing. Sounds pretty good as several of these on site activities are included in the price of camping. We will still be near beaches, sadly pebble beaches not sand. There will be the moorland to explore with a picnic rucksack. Something different from the city for the boys. […]

I love Eden Project

Nice day out. Started with thunderstorms but right now I do not care. I am sat inside the domes of the Eden project. Having coffee in the “Med” whilst waiting for a story-telling session to start for the boys. Also free wifi which is a bonus for snap happy folk with camera phones like myself. I have just found out if you buy a refillable metal water bottle or coffee travel mug you can have free refills all day with your receipt. This is not advertised in the coffee shops and food places, I saw a small sign by the cups saying refills all day. The cups are £7.50 which seems expensive but a single cuppa coffee is £2.50! The water bottles are £6.25 and are for water or soft drinks. If you are a grown up reading this and you plan to visit Eden head straight to the gift […]

Why did I have to go to paradise eh?

Since returning from Australia everything here seems so boring, dull, pointless, and outright COLD. Is it bad that after just a single week there I’m totally hooked on the place? My nickname has been Roo since I was a baby, family reasons…. but since I landed back in Blighty I’ve worn my Aussie Roo necklace everyday. I don’t even take it off to sleep. I honestly CRY at programs or adverts about the land down under now, and find myself “window shopping” travel websites. It’s surely not right to miss it so very much is it? There’s nothing like Austrailia, NO KIDDING. In my heart I think I have emigrated there already! In reality I doubt I’ll ever go again, possibly after we retire in a few decades. It’s only the cost stopping me, you would not believe how many Aussie holiday competitions I’ve entered since going there, but does […]

Gloucester City Residents weekend

I thought I would write a little something about Residents weekend. I saw a leaflet for this by chance, and after a bit of reading it seems that lots of Cities do this. Basically a few of the local “Sights” will open for free or reduced prices to local people in Gloucester on the 11th and 12th of Feb. This is great for me, as I only moved here a few years ago, and really know very little about the place I live! After a little look through the leaflet with my boys they had decided that of the attractions the light-ship sounded good, and so I have gone into the tourist information center with my proof of residency and got a “pass” for our family for the weekend. The idea of a light house on a boat is intriguing to me, but after reading up on it, it sounds like a hippy […]

Slightly overdue… Australia 2

A month ago I landed back in Blighty after going to the land down under. Well I think I will honestly struggle to get across how much I loved it, and how I truly miss the place after such a fleeting visit. I soooooooo want to go back, I wish I could. On 4th November I took off from Heathrow, after a minor strop about Qantas seating plans…. my second holiday via plane, and they’d put me alone… away from my friend. Cue me, stamping, crying and talking to myself. I’m not a brat, but was stressful having the ITV DayBreak cameras there, emotions were getting out of hand. Qantas had little choice, I was stood ON my seat until a reshuffle took place. :-/ my Mate Jacki stayed calm, fair play to her, I know I’m annoying! It was hours and hours of flying.. we arrived in Sydney late […]

Three weeks to go….

Three weeks today until Australia, I am getting all nervous, excited, I cry, then I’m happy. I’m an emotional wreck! I’ve got suitcases but still need travel money, insurance, and lots of little things. Felt pretty good as I bought 3 mini skirts yesterday ready for my amazing holiday… suncream a few days ago too. A week ago I was told I won the ITV Daybreak Down Under Competition. I knew I would get informed that week, before Friday, and was told to be near my phone between 6 and 8.30am as I might get called whilst live on air. By 10am on Friday, nothing… I’d lost hope, I was a right grumpy moo. Had been to the dentist for more bad news, then popped into work to say hello to my colleague. Needed to buy shampoo, so did that and Jenny ran away in a shopping center… I was […]

Reminising on Florida 5

As many of you know, I travelled in May this year to Florida, Orlando. This was the first time I had ever flown, anywhere, not even a small local flight, nothing! As a mummy of two, in a shop job, I can not afford holidays abroad, we normally go camping. So when my son won this holiday I went mental, crying and hardly slept for a week!!! All he had to do in return for winning was write a review for First News about the holiday. Having never been in these situtations before, the idea of American passport control was scary – people say such negative things about them! And then there was other things to worry about, like actually buying our passports first! It was a family trip, all four of us, to the Portofino Loews hotel, inside the Universal studios resort. A far cry from camping I can […]
