As a Mum of two boys I’ve had a lot of gift ideas mentioned to me. If you are a last minute shopper I might be able to help you avoid buying the dreaded socks, or worse still, petrol station purchases. Star Wars Lego. We were recently sent some Lego by George at Asda* and the lads do rather like it. Dee (age 13) chose the TIE fighter, whilst Jen (age 7) chose a couple of smaller sets. The TIE fighter took a while to build which is great for an older boy, or even a childish adult. With the size of the box and the RRP of £59.99 I was honestly expecting more, something bigger or with a smaller ship or droid in the box. Dee said he likes the set but that he also felt the price was too high, and he’s an avid Lego collector. I’d recommend […]
Monday night, Tuesday night and this morning (Wednesday) it has been like fireworks in the sky. I have got some video of it from last night which I can’t upload right now, but I will. The night storms are strange, no wind or rain just thunder and lightening. At home me and the boys have never seen lightening without rain. It wasn’t just far away, the forks of lightening were flashing in all directions yet it remained dry. A very odd sensation.
I know I know, I shouldn’t put exclamation marks in a title, but I have. So there. I am excited. We are going to Italy because I wrote this post recently. Daddy/Blokey can’t get time off work but Jen, D and I are going. All last week I was excited it is nearly #BritMumsLive now that isn’t as exciting (sorry bloggers).
Its not often Blokey and I manage to get time alone together, but Saturday was childfree. His Brother stayed at our house whilst we went to the rugby finals at Twickenham. I had won the tickets in the ticket grab game, and as a result I had to try again to grab tickets. Think the Crystal Maze dome. Its like that.
Its been hard to get my boys outside lately. Jen was unwell, it looked very much like it was scarlet fever but luckily the rash and temperature faded away. He was off of school 4 days, and hardly stepped outside the whole time. Except the trip to A&E, the silly lad swallowed a metal marble from Mouse Trap board game! Any way … Some outside photos of the boys…
First up, an apology – I am a bad book buddy! My boys receive a book a month they are meant to review, and a pile of books is just sat next to my fireplace. So consider this a book round up if you will, catching up! All the links to buy them are in the Amazon widget* at the end of this post, or I have seen several of them in WHSmiths for less money normally than Amazon. First up… Yuck! Gross! Activities This book has lots of very boyish puzzles, colouring in a sewer maze to free a rat, Jen had fun scribbling through this book. It’s 192 pages and has an RRP of £10. Inside this disgustingly doodly, fabulously foul activity book, you’ll find everything that’s slimy, sludgy, icky and yucky! Including revolting doodles, creepy-crawly colouring and hideous how-to-draws. Plus gross mazes, puzzles and activities galore!
Today the Daily Mail / Mail on Sunday paper is the most hated thing on the internet after the article by Ross Slater, closely followed by that big brother woman. You must have read this today? About the lying reporter wasting time and stealing food? Michelle from Crowther Clan blog wrote this post earlier. A well worded moan at the Daily Mail, which I recommend reading. Also Mummy Glitzer wrote a brilliant blog post about food banks.
On Monday we drove up North to Cayton Bay in North Yorkshire, near Scarborough. The reason we came so far from home was my sister wanted to visit where our Grandparents lived. A place we remember for good and bad times. Upsettingly my sister let us down and hasn’t come – I won’t say much on that in case she reads this but I am disappointed. We wouldn’t have gone on a 4 hour drive except she suggested we go somewhere together. Now on to Park Resorts….. When we booked this months back we paid the deposit then a few weeks later got a very stroppy letter saying words similar to “you haven’t paid the full balance yet so your booking is cancelled and deposits lost”. We phoned the number on the letter and the phone system was a nightmare, I think on the third attempt we got through to […]
I am pretty sure people that know me well know I love the Manic Street Preachers. Last night was my Christmas present. Blokey gave me a xmas card with a note saying “this is a promise of a hotel booking, manics gig tickets for two and a babysitter”. We don’t get much alone time without the boys. A very thoughtful gift I thought although it was a long wait.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ( or TMNT as I remember it)– Mutagen Mayhem DVD is due for release by Paramount Home Media Distribution on the 31st of March. Mutagen Mayhem has five episodes from the second season of Nickelodeon’s CGI-animated hit series. In this Season 2 Volume 1, you get to see the gang face new perils including robot foot soldiers, an infestation of mutated squirrels and the ultimate threat; Mutagen Man!
Yesterday we went to visit Blokey’s Grandad. He is a very elderly chap, who had a stroke a few years back so whenever we go round he’s always in his chair. The boys can’t remember him pre-stroke so they struggle a bit. I remember him being a bit chattier so I understand his speech. Although the kids like the great grandparents they do act like caged animals when we leave their house. Too much sitting still and behaving! So afterwards we went for a muck about at the park. It was a hot sunny day, so ice cream and a walk about the pond. This soon turned into chucking sticks into the water, then pebbles. A bit of tree climbing. Fishing out clumps of fish eggs or frog spawn using long twigs, but carefully so we didn’t kill anything, and we put it back in the same place we found […]
