The Barn Owl centre in Gloucester 6

Recently the boys and I visited the Barn Owl centre, it is very near home yet we had never been.  It is not like other bird of prey centres I’ve visited, this place is all for the birds and their welfare. It is a registered charity dedicated to conservation, education and bird welfare. It was a boiling hot day when we visited, and some of the birds were sulking a bit – but to be honest so were my sons so fair enough birds. I couldn’t fault how the birds were treated though, and they all had plenty of water and food. First we met Paddy, a sweet looking 11 year old female barn owl. We walked along a tunnel-like corridor towards the flying barn, which had old cinema chairs and a big screen they use for education. Paddy sat on a beam at one end of the barn, and was a […]

Friday after school 4

Last week was a bad week. Got a bit of bad news from the police. Partner had a car crash. Train station staff refused me travel for over two hours in London so got home at bed time. Having a bad night, then one parent said “What’s wrong Julie?!” in the playground and I broke down and cried on her shoulder for an hour. Freya Woof got Tikka and the poor hen nearly died. Tail-less but mainly feather damage, with some nasty cuts and bruises. I’ve got 3 types of chicken medicines on the go right now trying to help her. I was convinced she’d go in her sleep on the first night, but she’s hanging on in there and has started nibbling on food. Anywho after a week of something going wrong every day I went to the park with Jen and Freya after school. I tied Freya to […]

Brushing teeth 1

Why is it my Jen hates brushing his teeth? He tries all kinds of excuses for why he shouldn’t and sadly his dentist wasn’t much help. When I said in his last appointment “Jen refuses to brush his teeth most days” she replied with “don’t worry these are still just the milk teeth” to me and later to Jen “your teeth are looking great, well done”. Not well done, they have big tartar lines along them. I was less than impressed. Luckily the folk at Oasis have been in touch and sent Jen some charts and stickers and sugar free lollipops as rewards.

Primark and Body Shop haul 1

It was my birthday recently and I had £30 to spend. I knew I wanted decent foundations as my bare faced reflection makes me cringe. I had been using MAC face and body, but it doesn’t cover enough for me. I did great at Body Shop! £53.50 shelf label value, I actually paid £23.35 after some discount stacking. I am also expecting a 93pence refund via TopCashBack* so £22.28 really paid. I practically robbed them, legally mind!

Hello Harry 10

Today this happened. My neighbour wrote on Facebook earlier “young guinea pig, free to good home”. For a little while I’ve been considering getting a pal for Patch rabbit. Patch is mega old, about 10 years old. According to the posters in the pet shops rabbits live until about 6 years old, erm? Anyhow Patch hates other rabbits, I have introduced him to seven other rabbits over the years, he hated all of them but he tolerated our elderly guinea pig, Dotty, who passed away a while ago now.

Play.com want to know about your #ReasonsToShop (competition ended) 166

I was a happy bunny when the folk at Play.com contacted me to ask if I wanted a gift from their gardening category. Yes, yes please was my reply. What I picked out might seem dull or boring, but I was about to go and buy similar in town. As I’ve mentioned more than once, pet chickens are organised and efficient garden destroyers. They dig, scratch and peck at things obsessively. The chickens pecked and scratched so much that my lawn edging was shredded, as is most of my garden. We had a cheaper lawn edging like this product on Play. The cheper option is £10 for my bed, or £30 for the better fake stone option I chose.

#MySundayPhoto Bat stuck up a tree 9

On Friday Jen went to school as the dark night for book week. He was throwing a teddy bat around outside and it got stuck, up the tree! Look at the face he’s pulling. After I took this photo I had to climb up the tree and free Batty. Linking with #MySundayPhoto on one dad 3 girls blog.
