Swans don’t like dogs! 8

Yesterday the kids were bored and moaning they didn’t want to go out. They’d gone a bit stir crazy in fact and all the overly aggressive “playing” was worrying me. It was one of them days. After another time-out moment Blokey and I told them to get coats, shoes and the woofs lead. We hadn’t had lunch yet, and Blokey and I just needed to get them out of the house. We popped to a certain popular drive through to grab lunch without leaving the woof.

Worried For Maggie 5

My little cutey with the attitude, Maggie rabbit, is ill. 50/50 chance ill. When I bought her for a tenner it felt like a rehome/rescue. She was living with a breeder who proudly said what a good mother Maggie was, and how I could get “decent money if you breed her.” Of course I wanted her to retire her immediately. The poor little bun was terrified of the people she was with and hated the male rabbits she was in tiny hutches next to.

Winning Weekends (10-13 January) 2

Happy Friday compers and bloggers, Please linky up blog competitions below, they can be your own blog comps, or just ones you have seen online and thought “that’s awesome, but not for me”. Maybe a friend is having a blog giveaway/contest for boys things, but your kiddies are girls. Perhaps it’s a chocolate competition and you are a devoted dieter? Linky it up 😉 I don’t really have rules for this but this is for UK competitions please, and I would very much appreciate if you filled in the title (name) box like this: “25/2 win your favourite perfume – blogtitle” rather than “my friends awesomely named blog”. End dates are great because if it’s got a long date it might be worth adding to next weekends as well and it’s also good to know what the prize is before trying to win it. I will try to add a […]

An Extra Room 5

For a long while I’ve been tripping over Lego and toys and things. The Lego train set takes up lots of floor space and when Dee gets it out he hates being asked to pack it away.  Well today I solved this problem, I made us an extra room. A week ago I asked on Freecycle if anyone had any carpet offcuts so I could carpet the loft as a play space for my boys. A lovely chap responded, and even delivered it to us. It was several bits of long but narrow carpet about 12ft long, but in various widths.

Strange Day & Bad News 5

Today my Father phoned me. That doesn’t sound too unusual, until you realise he’s not seen me for 4 years and I get 1 or 2 phonecalls a year. Well today was that phonecall. He sounded ill, like a muffled snotty cold. I ask about my youngest brother and sister, he says their mum left him and took the children – he’s no idea where. He says he needs to see me and my boys. He’s not well, I could hear this much, but it’s serious. He medically died earlier this year. Heart and lung issues. His heart totally stopped. Enffesicam and a pacemaker. He’s now struggling with mobility… My Dad has a wheelchair. Running that past again, heart failed, dead, revived, pacemaker, long term health issue, wheelchair, I knew NONE of this, and now Dad is casually mentioning wills mid phonecall and that he wants to say goodbye. He’s […]

Nerf For Christmas 1

As a child I used to love Nerf but was told I wasn’t allowed it, as I am a girl. How mean!? My eldest son D loves Nerf’s and has a bit of a collection upstairs. So he was Delighted when I told him Argos wanted to send him and Jen a Nerf each. You probably heard recently about the top Christmas Toys being announced, Nerf was on it. Dream toys here at Argos. Jen had a Stryfe and D had the Alpha Trooper CS12 Nerf. Sadly the weather has been against us, so not many photos, but my boys have been running about outside and inside shooting each other, me, and Blokey. Everything has been a target! These were brilliant fun. Jen struggled with his jamming, but my in-house-Nerf-expert D insists it was user error not an actual fault. D knows what he’s on about, he has 8 Nerfs, […]

Cancer Research UK Want To End The #PacketRacket

Today Cancer Research UK are launching a video (below) to help the campaign for standardised packaging. That means removing the funky, bold, iconic and eye catching designs from fag packets because children respond to branding. I started smoking young, about 12 years old. I stuck to certain brands, pretty ones. So I do agree with this campaign, anything that makes children less likely to start smoking is a good thing. Why do I care about smoking cancers? I care because this killed my Grandad, Gramps, the man who was a dad to me. Killed by brightly coloured sticks of poison sold at the post office, the supermarket, even the sweet shop. I remember clearly my Gramps smoking, and telling me the dangers weren’t known when he started smoking as a young man. That he knew better now, but he was already a smoker for most of his life, why stop? […]

Letters From Santa by the NSPCC 1

I like to help charities, particularly ones I have experience of, and more so at Christmas! As a teen the NSPCC were my legal guardians, so rather than writing a letter from “Santa” for my boys I get a lovely one from the NSPCC website in return for a donation. The suggested donation is £5 and you can choose more or less if you wish. Every year online I see people selling “letters from Santa” where people are just printing out their own scripted letters and changing the names and ages – not very personalised really and that money goes straight to that seller. With the NSPCC letters to Santa the actual letters are awesome AND it’s not money to someone’s pocket, this helps real kids. (Trust me!) The Letters from Santa section on the NSPCC site lets you make your letter. You tell them some basics, first name, surname, favourite things, and a […]
