After years being a bit anti the charity shoe box schemes I’ve decided I will give a box to a girl overseas. This change of heart is entirely MichelleTwinMum’s doing. Last year she went with Operation Christmas Child, (or OCC for short) to Belarus to see how they operate and who gets the shoebox parcels. Hiya readers! This is Freya. She currently lives at Dogs trust in Evesham, but we’ve started an adoption. Yippee! I am utterly excited, and am looking forward to bringing her home. But before that she will be neutered by Dogs Trust as it’s their normal policy to neuter/castrate all dogs before rehoming.
Twitter informs me its World Mental Health Day today. Something I can contribute to I feel. The other day I shared my doctors letter with you. I was hurt and upset to read a professional stating “Julie’s condition disables her” and his opinion that I’ll probably never be fit to work again. This is due to mental health. Mental health is often invisible. It often comes with a huge stigma, and a lot of judgement. A brief history of me… I’ve been abused, step father and a male partner. I have been beaten, robbed, raped, forced to do things, and utterly controlled to a point I lost the will to live. I escaped, I ran a few hundred miles and made internet friends. I’ve made an early start on Christmas presents and have a few people’s gifts sorted already. The gift I’m proudest of, and a blindingly good price are these photos for family. The photo collage prints cost 99p each for 10 x 8 inch on snapfish, and the frames are from poundland, and it’s a real glass window on it, not perspex as I would have expected of a cheap item.
Today I’m happy. A few years back I knocked our kitchen and hallway wall down to make one large kitchen. Since then the floor has been covered in thin boards, which looked so temporary. The walls and ceiling were painted, curtains were up, everything else except the floor. I felt embarrassed to open the front door. But not today, because now it’s finally homey and finished. At last!
Yesterday we went out for an Adventure, a grand day out actually! We went to Bristol on the train for the Gromit exhibition.
I love wildlife, and around here we get rather a variety if you are looking. Birds, badgers, foxes, hedgehogs, wild rabbits, mice, owls and bats are common here. I encourage it all, except the foxes. I like foxes from a distance, but as I have pet chickens and bunnies I don’t like them too close. Bats.org.uk has some handy tips on gardening for bats and making bat boxes. For attracting the cute fluffy wildlife you need shelter and food! Ideally hedges for something to hide in/under, and grass with native wild flowers as this is what they munch outside of your garden after all. You can buy lawn seed premixed with wild flower seeds, talk about easy peasy! I put this in my garden today. Mainly in my fruit and flower bed and then patched the lawn. A year and a bit ago I wrote welcome Dotty. I loved my ugly, smelly, noisy, deformed little guinea pig. He was special, his personality was hard to ignore. Just over a year ago I went to a pet shop just to buy bunny food and left with Dotty. He choose us, made it clear we were his people, I insisted on taking him home, the staff had to check with management as he wasn’t officially “ready for release” to be adopted… Something like that. So I spoke to the managers and said Dotty was calling to me, he had picked me, and I was willing to love Dotty and I had a spare hutch. I wouldn’t have taken no as an answer in honesty! I was recently asked if I would like to review JOHNSON’s baby easy rinse foaming shampoo with Jen. I know it’s called “baby” shampoo but I’ve been using it myself too, and it smells rather nice. It comes in a little pump action bottle that makes it foam lots like the hand-soap in public loos. Jen likes it mostly because it is fun, I like it because he wants to wash his hair! Until recently he was keen on being clean, baths, showers, paddling pools or hosepipes… he was not fussy.
This month my son D has been happily reading “Uncovering the prehistoric world – dinosaurs!” by Parragon books. We are part of Book Buddies, which means we get offered lovely books like this to review. From the second the postie handed this over it has been next to D’s bed. He loves factual books displaying the facts in fun ways. You wouldn’t catch him reading a dictionary, he likes some pictures to help his imagination. I thought I would ask him on film, my apologies for the poor lighting! (The noises are his Dad and Jen cooking in the kitchen.)
The last few days we have been camping in Devon, hence the silence from myself on social media. I get ordinary phone signal, but 3G has gone on holiday round these parts. We are staying on the River Dart country park. It is nice, we are pitched under the overhang of a sycamore tree, all around us is more family tents.
