How does your garden grow? 13

This week with the hot weather my garden is doing rather well. I finally, almost, have a lawn again. I’ve been sneaking out in the evenings and watering the trees and the mud lawn so it doesn’t die from the heat. I recently shared photos of my fruit trees, and hopefully you can see the size increase of the plums. The plums were about baked bean sized, now they are more like traditional sweet stall humbug sized.

Bank holiday weekend as a #MorrisonsMum 8

Last weekend I was lucky enough to get sent some Morrisons shopping vouchers and asked for my opinions on Morrisons prices, quality and the experience as a whole. Morrisons were extremely generous and sent hundreds of blogging parents shopping vouchers, so we could all give them a go, and look out for the “I’m Cheaper” logos. To be honest we normally shop elsewhere, but with a new store open in Gloucester this was the perfect excuse to go to M instead.

How to Make Handmade Heart Decorations

This evening I’ve been making heart decorations similar to the ones I learnt how to make at the Shloer blogger “crafternoon tea” event with The Makery. Clearly I’ve been inspired! I wanted cheap fabric so I chose two 3 packs of tea towels, one set in green one in red. Festive of course. These were from a pound shop, so was the 5 pack of glittery silver ribbon, and the packet of bells. The coloured ribbons and buttons came from my local market at a marvelous £1.50. The stuffing is free, it’s a lumpy unusable pillow (washed and dried in advance) chopped open.

Winning Weekends (15-18 November) 1

Happy Friday compers and bloggers, it’s that time of the week again, Yay! Please linky up blog competitions below, they can be your own blog comps, or just ones you have seen online and thought “that’s awesome, but not for me”. Maybe a friend is having a blog giveaway/contest for sweets, but you’re on that new diet? Maybe it’s a gardening prize and you aren’t at all green fingered?? Linky it up 😉 I don’t really have rules for this but this is for UK competitions please, and I would very much appreciate if you filled in the title (name) box like this: “12/12 Win your favourite sweets – blogtitle” rather than “my friends awesomely named blog”. End dates are great because if it’s got a long date it might be worth adding to next weekends as well and it’s also good to know what the prize is before trying […]

Making Wildlife at Home in Your Garden 3

I love wildlife, and around here we get rather a variety if you are looking. Birds, badgers, foxes, hedgehogs, wild rabbits, mice, owls and bats are common here. I encourage it all, except the foxes. I like foxes from a distance, but as I have pet chickens and bunnies I don’t like them too close. Bats.org.uk has some handy tips on gardening for bats and making bat boxes. For attracting the cute fluffy wildlife you need shelter and food! Ideally hedges for something to hide in/under, and grass with native wild flowers as this is what they munch outside of your garden after all. You can buy lawn seed premixed with wild flower seeds, talk about easy peasy! I put this in my garden today. Mainly in my fruit and flower bed and then patched the lawn. The RSPB is also great for information on encouraging wildlife, it’s not just […]

Volcano Nail Polish 2

I decided I wanted funky nails, but find false nails uncomfortable. After a lot of gardening recently my nails were a bit of a state. They needed hiding. So I was in Poundland having a nosey at the make up. They often have some top brands in little plastic packages that hang on those metal stock spikes. I rummaged through…. Some Rimmel, Max factor, Sally H, Opi and some W7. I had seen W7 crackle polish before in other shops but had been put off by the price at around a fiver a bottle. Sometimes you are really lucky in Poundland and you’ll get two branded make up items per pack, and I did indeed get a steal of a bargain, a bright red and a deep purpley red crackle polish in one package. Thats 50p each! Deal, sold.

Plant me

Plant Some Trees 3

I’m sure you’ve all realised I’m a bit of a tree hugger, with a huge 11 trees in my small garden (and a Bonsai indoors) I can’t quite cram any more in. So I’d like to encourage, nag, inspire or motivate you lot, my lovely readers, to plant a tree or two. Native trees would of course be better, but anything is a start. We are running out of woodland, and as a girl that grew up climbing trees I find it hard to swallow that in the area I live my boys have no trees old enough or strong enough to climb. The local council do have some big trees, along the edges of roads but these are lopped every other year so they never grow decent branches, they’ll never get much bigger. Of course this is preferable to them being cut down at ground level, a lopped tree is […]

Some Of The Best Views In London 2

London is a very strange and beautiful city. Some really old buildings like St Paul’s cathedral, and then the ultra modern like the Shard. Nothing really fits in the capital, yet is this jumble-sale style mixture of architecture that make it what it is. I wouldn’t change it, personally I love London. London… Legoland style! The obvious “best view” place is the London eye, just towering above the Thames and County Hall below. A fave way to the capital is hop on a river boat, not one of those ferries, but a smaller company is often better. As for the commentary, priceless!

Tardis of a bag

What’s In My Handbag?

I don’t know about you readers, but my handbag is like a tardis. I usually manage to cram rather a lot of junk in there, some of it is useful things, keys etc, some of it are things I feel I need, such as make up, then some of it is dumped in there by the kids, such as Lightening McQueen cars or sweetie wrappers. So when I came across another of MoneySuperMarket’s blogger challenges I knew I had to join in really…. If you’re thinking of entering too, hurry up, it ends at midnight tonight so not long at all.
