There is a support group local to me called Charlie’s that I’ve just recently found out about. It is a local group not a big national charity, so they don’t get much media coverage or publicity. What they do is brilliant, it is a support group for anyone effected by cancer. You don’t have to be in treatment, you could have had the all clear for years or be close family of someone with cancer. You might have noticed I’ve put their logo on my sidebar and wondered what they are all about.
Back in summer, just before the trip to Italy we tried out Chicago town take style pizza. Unsurprisingly looking a holiday to Italy, flights, dog and pet sitters, travel to the airport and time off for school meant I got distracted and forgot! As it goes I was eating Chicago town pizza whilst packing for the Italy trip.
Near me is the wonderful Barn Owl Centre and their feathered friends need your support. They are trying to raise £30k so they can buy the farm they are based on. They’ve been renting since 2008 from the council. If they can buy the farm the future will be more secure, they can do the improvements they need to do and not worry about whether the lease will be renewed or not.
The last few months I have seen so much negativity regarding rescued dogs, in particular it seems to be frowned on if you have children. Just look at the comments underneath online newspaper stories about dogs. Well I have a rescued dog, Freya, and I have two children. I am such a bad parent for this, allegedly. I do not understand why people brand all rehomed dogs that have had a bad start as bad dogs. They are not. Some are, most aren’t, but like people you do occasionally get lunatics.
Recently the boys and I visited the Barn Owl centre, it is very near home yet we had never been. It is not like other bird of prey centres I’ve visited, this place is all for the birds and their welfare. It is a registered charity dedicated to conservation, education and bird welfare. It was a boiling hot day when we visited, and some of the birds were sulking a bit – but to be honest so were my sons so fair enough birds. I couldn’t fault how the birds were treated though, and they all had plenty of water and food. First we met Paddy, a sweet looking 11 year old female barn owl. We walked along a tunnel-like corridor towards the flying barn, which had old cinema chairs and a big screen they use for education. Paddy sat on a beam at one end of the barn, and was a […]
In an hour an in law will be here to look after the pets and my boys. I’ve been packing, and freaking out and stressing. My eldest son D has been a darling, ironed my skydive tshirts to fix the Dylon fabric pen writing on the back, and has been into the loft to get my little suitcase. I genuinely do not even like being as high as three steps up a ladder.
Last week was a bad week. Got a bit of bad news from the police. Partner had a car crash. Train station staff refused me travel for over two hours in London so got home at bed time. Having a bad night, then one parent said “What’s wrong Julie?!” in the playground and I broke down and cried on her shoulder for an hour. Freya Woof got Tikka and the poor hen nearly died. Tail-less but mainly feather damage, with some nasty cuts and bruises. I’ve got 3 types of chicken medicines on the go right now trying to help her. I was convinced she’d go in her sleep on the first night, but she’s hanging on in there and has started nibbling on food. Anywho after a week of something going wrong every day I went to the park with Jen and Freya after school. I tied Freya to […]
Hello readers. Do you remember a little while back I wrote about Gloucester food bank? Well the lovely manager has emailed me to say that there will be big collections at the bigger Tesco stores in Gloucester and I want to share this info with you all. In fact since reading the email I have seen an advert on the telly saying that Tesco will add an extra 30% to whatever is donated in their stores this weekend 3rd 4th and 5th July, if its on the “shopping list”. If you are shopping please consider buying a couple of cartons of long life milk or a few nice tins, or an extra bottle of shower gel. Even one donation helps, it all adds up. Ok a tin of peas isn’t a meal but it does get packed in to meal kits and passed on to a person or family in […]
