You know I am doing that crazy skydive thingyamybob soon? Yes? Well I have come across a marvellous fundraising idea. TinyMe (who I’ve mentioned here before) are being very kind and saying they will donate 20% of sales mentioning Team Matilda Mae to the skydive JustGiving page. TinyMe is great for personalised labels for school uniform, gym bags, lunch bags, and even books and puzzles.
I received an email from a local charity which I am sharing with you all today. The following is written by Liam at Winston’s wish. They are a specialist support charity for children that have lost one or both parents. With Father’s Day approaching this weekend, Winston’s Wish knows that for children and young people coping with life after the death of their father, this time of year can be particularly poignant. I mention it quite often on Twitter and Facebook that I am trying hard to fundraise. Sadly my donations haven’t taken off yet, so I’m trying something else. UPDATED – I have changed the donatition link in the Rafflecopter form to support Claire as I have reached the £400 I needed to reach. Sadly Claire hasn’t yet. All entries made via my donation page are still valid of course. The only change is where future donations end up. Every now and then I get asked to share something and I think why not. This was one of those email conversations. I am pleased to say I don’t have epilepsy, nor do my family. But I know it’s a very common condition and have worked with people with the condition. I know so little about it, so I’ll hand you over to John from Young Epilepsy for a guest post… Did you know that epilepsy affects 112,000 children and young people aged 25 and under in the UK? Put very simply, at every secondary school there will be five children on the register that have been diagnosed with the condition (the figure for primary schools is an average of one child per school).
UPDATE… I AM SO SORRY AIRFIELD JUST SAID NO, I AM TOO HEAVY. I AM DISAPPOINTED AND EMBARRASSED AND SORRY. 2ND AUGUST STILL ON! ——— I was skydiving on 2nd August, that is big for me. Now I am also skydiving on Friday 9th May. I have so far raised £31 which whilst I am grateful for it is not nearly enough. My JustGiving page is here if you want to check the total. I wish I was good at fundraising. I wish I could raise thousands. You see today is Matilda Mae’s birthday – but instead of toys and teddies and hugs and cards her parents and family instead have to send ballons and bubbles towards heaven. As you might have gathered, I am annoyed by the recent bad press related to the Trussell Trust and food banks after The Daily Fail wrote that article. So annoyed I visited my local food bank and not only donated some items, but spent some time talking to the staff at Gloucester food bank. The Fail is way off, these people are lovely, and kind, and well, brilliant. The first thing I want to say is that Gloucester food bank gets no government level help – it is a charity that relies on kind donations and volunteered time. It is a smallish building, but well used. Shelves were stacked with items that families in need would love. It was organised by type of product, and dates. Bulkier items had whole shelves to themselves, and smaller bits were in labelled cardboard boxes used like draws. I met lovely volunteers who I saw […]
Today the Daily Mail / Mail on Sunday paper is the most hated thing on the internet after the article by Ross Slater, closely followed by that big brother woman. You must have read this today? About the lying reporter wasting time and stealing food? Michelle from Crowther Clan blog wrote this post earlier. A well worded moan at the Daily Mail, which I recommend reading. Also Mummy Glitzer wrote a brilliant blog post about food banks.
I am sure you all know about #NoMakeUpSelfies and how awesome this turned out to be for CRUK (Cancer Research UK). They raised millions of pounds, love or hate selfies you can’t deny that is an amazing amount of dosh. So when my mate Kay mentioned this #GetYourBellyOut campaign she was involved in I knew I should help.
