Big Night In – Mice, Chips and Cluedo 4

The lovely folks at MoneySuperMarket let me and my boys participate in another blogger challenge. Thanks guys, you are EPIC!

For this challenge they kindly wired (ok PayPal’ed) me Fifty Squids to spend on a family night in.
We bought two retro board games that Blokey and I liked as kids, with the plan being fish and chips from the nice local takeaway.
So at Blokey’s knocking-off time at work we phoned him to give him our dinner orders to get on his drive home.

Jen wanted jumbo sausage and chips, Blokey, D and I all had haddock and chips. The fish was huge, too big, felt wasteful.
And a bottle of coke, the real coke not an own brand version as its a treat.

Fish and chip supper funished, so a quick hand wash then on to Mousetrap.

Mousetrap has changed. Where is the bath tub? The plain but pretty mice? And now it has cheese segments that look more like Trivial Pursuit. Dear games companies, please don’t mess up the classics?

After Jen, playing as blue, won we moved on to Cluedo.

This game looked all modern but I’m pleased to say you set up and play exactly like “the old days” so we knew how to play this one!

Jen was too young to play by himself, so he partnered with me. D was plenty old enough and really enjoyed this game.

After a while Jen got bored and started playing with cars, fair enough! It was about 9.30pm by the time we actually packed the games away.

Best game since Monopoly 🙂

For a good night in I recommend ignoring Mousetrap and getting out the Cluedo set…. and possibly a chilled bottle of grown up pop!

I was given a £50 budget to spend on a family night in, we actually went over this. Can hardly believe the price of board games nowadays. Makes me feel old just writing that!
