Since returning from Australia everything here seems so boring, dull, pointless, and outright COLD. Is it bad that after just a single week there I’m totally hooked on the place? My nickname has been Roo since I was a baby, family reasons…. but since I landed back in Blighty I’ve worn my Aussie Roo necklace everyday. I don’t even take it off to sleep. I honestly CRY at programs or adverts about the land down under now, and find myself “window shopping” travel websites. It’s surely not right to miss it so very much is it? There’s nothing like Austrailia, NO KIDDING. In my heart I think I have emigrated there already! In reality I doubt I’ll ever go again, possibly after we retire in a few decades. Gloucester City Residents weekend

I thought I would write a little something about Residents weekend. I saw a leaflet for this by chance, and after a bit of reading it seems that lots of Cities do this. Basically a few of the local “Sights” will open for free or reduced prices to local people in Gloucester on the 11th and 12th of Feb. This is great for me, as I only moved here a few years ago, and really know very little about the place I live! After a little look through the leaflet with my boys they had decided that of the attractions the light-ship sounded good, and so I have gone into the tourist information center with my proof of residency and got a “pass” for our family for the weekend. Yesterday I went on a charity shop rumage as kids have grown again when we are skint (why are growth spurts always at bad times?) and due to this I was looking for anything for my boys. A few of the shops were stupidly over priced, for example a Primark tshirt, the ones that are £1.50 normally was £2.00 second hand and faded. One shop had a brand new with tags still on Ollie shirt for £1.50. How can they vary so much? Sadly most is charged at more than its realistic value. In Salvation Army they had a “bargain basket” which was 20p an item. Mainly socks, vests, gloves or scruffy looking items, like wearable but donated dirty. Christmas shopping, skint style

Well we are off out, but we are paying in nectar points, gift cards, and Tesco clubcard double up points vouchers. Also been buying things on paypal funds which I’ve “earned” via quidco and online surveys. November wasn’t a good month, I was on holiday (which was fabulous but killed us in childcare), then I lost a few days sick, then tax credits sent us a £2k demand, sorry “invoice” due to them making mistakes EVERY year since my kids were born, and us duely informing them everytime. Family, be warned, you’re all getting 3for2 offer smellies from the nectar points, please fake a smile when you open them!

Three weeks today until Australia, I am getting all nervous, excited, I cry, then I’m happy. I’m an emotional wreck! I’ve got suitcases but still need travel money, insurance, and lots of little things. Felt pretty good as I bought 3 mini skirts yesterday ready for my amazing holiday… suncream a few days ago too. A week ago I was told I won the ITV Daybreak Down Under Competition. I knew I would get informed that week, before Friday, and was told to be near my phone between 6 and 8.30am as I might get called whilst live on air. By 10am on Friday, nothing… I’d lost hope, I was a right grumpy moo. Had been to the dentist for more bad news, then popped into work to say hello to my colleague. Hello, A twitter friend has this neat little blog link up called “magpie Monday” where you show each other what amazing bargains you’ve found that week. Not tesco bargains, real thrifty shopping. This week I’m proud of myself as I got some lovely jams and chutentys for 20p a small jar, and 50p for the large jars in a charity table-top sale. Basically I work in a shop and they were raising money for a certain Pink cancer charity. They were selling homemade cakes (over priced but I really wanted one, ok two) and also had “damaged” unsellable stock. So you know those lovely Mrs Bridges Jam jars you see in cute gift sets, when something is out of date like the bicuits the jams are still in date, but the barcode was for the SET so they can’t sell the seperate jars. Well after months of planning its just a week until I fly for the first time. Today I went out clothes shopping for my boys but made the mistake of taking them to choose!! What a farce and drama that was. Note to self, never EVER take 2 boys and my partner to Primark. Ever! I’ve spent £41 and they have socks, pants, boxers, sunglasses, a few tshirts and two pairs of shorts each. Hurrah. Shame I didn’t get anything for me except a headache! Haha posted from Bloggeroid
