Leaving Gloucester and trying to load the car up on Sunday was hindered and delayed by constant heavy rain and thunder.
When we arrived here was rain showers and a bit windy. Made pitching our 6 person vango tent somewhat awkward. We got over that and got the tent up despite the English summer! We decided the extension canopy/awning would wait until Monday.
The last 2 years in a row we’ve come here there has been a bunch of brats… I mean teenage children, that heckle my other half. Last year their name for him was potato, this year its wiffy.
This sounds juvenile and pathetic, which of course it is, but I find it near impossible to ignore them. Whenever we leave the tent and are seen they laugh, point or shout things at us. I want to go home!
Add to this the weather, strong winds which damaged our awning and tent, then late this morning I had sudden pain.
I was sat on the floor reading, hadn’t moved or done anything to provoke it, and I got sudden massive pain in my back, reminded me of labour contractions. Honestly, was that strong. I collapse sideways then backwards laying on the floor crying. I couldn’t move, face down on floor, sticking to the tent ground sheet. My kids carried on like i wasn’t there, littlest then stands on my leg.
Hubby mumbled “what’s wrong?” “I don’t know but it hurts!” and they all leave me there. All movement hurt, had no control of my back and very limited control of my arms and legs. Finally my kids take the hint and go outside to play. So I tell Hubby deadly straight I am in agony and can not move, although you’d have thought this was obvious. He asks what I want him to do and I say contact someone medical as I can not move. All in all a stressful day as when I eventually saw a doctor she couldn’t fix it, checked me over and appologised for not doing a home visit… It was HELL for me to stand, involved Hubby moving me in stages, from lying on my tummy, to lying on back, then a few mins later Hubby tried to help me to a sitting position. That resulted in nearly screaming, could barely breath from crying/pain and was so intense I suspected I might vomit. Thankfully I didn’t.
From that I then get onto my knees to kneel, stopping halfway, in limbo almost, hugging Hubbys leg and crying loudly, then a strong pull up from him and I am stood up and amazed my legs support me. I waddle slowly to the toilet block with him and then the car to go to the doctors.
Apparently I have a slipped disk, or popped disk whatever this means. I’ve been told to go home, to Gloucester to a solid bed to limit risk of further injury. How can I cancel the kids holiday after just 3 full days? So I’m trying to cope with the pain best I can but this is not what I had been looking forwards to for months.
Even today the brats are at it.. Threw a handful of copper coins at my boys when they went to the loo, Jen thought they were being nice, giving him penny’s but I don’t think of it as a sweet gesture like Jen does. Then as we are sat eating dinner they are yelling Wiffy Wiffy WIFFFFFY as loud as they can. I am fighting hard the urge to slap them. I might have just yelled something ending in “off” in response to them as now shouting it from next to our tent!
