Win – B-Sensible Eco Friendly Bedding

Hello world, The kind folks at B-Sensible have been in touch, and I’m happy to say are offering Julie’s Notebook readers a chance to win a bed sheet in their choice of size and colour. Size is a boring decision but colour, well, B-Sensible have loads of choices. The best thing about these bed sheets is that it’s waterproof and still breathable. This is awesome for children that wet the bed. The second best thing is the environmentally friendliness.

Cant Afford to Move, Improve 2

We would love to move to a better house but at the moment we can not afford to so I’ve been trying to fix what I can. I figure this makes the house more valuable, so when we can eventually afford to get a new house this place should sell at a fair price. Today I ripped up the carpet and underlay and nailed plywood over the damaged floor boards. It had been squeaking and creaking awfully. I knew the wooden boards were damaged but was surprised just how bad they were. Complete cracks through some of them. Sadly the boards are a non standard size and we were told would have to modify normal boards, I do not have the skills, cash or power tools. So I decided on lining the floor with ply so it would spread the weight across weak and strong boards, making it safer and less […]

Why I Would Love a New Bathroom

Over on Tots100 they are hosting a blogging competition with Bathshop321 with the chance to win a new bathroom. Count me in! I’ve had a look over on the website and this is the suite I like… Picture from Bathshop321 We haven’t had much luck with bathrooms, remember the disaster of a bathroom I blogged photos of recently? We had a decent quality bathroom and paid for quality fixtures, and for it to be installed by their men, approximately £5000 and it wasn’t even done right! A fresh start would be awesome, rip out anything that reminds me of the local cowboys. We could keep the wall covering and the ceiling light, and my little mirrored bathroom cabinet, but everything else could go. Ok, maybe I would keep the shower as it is already installed in to the wall, but everything else needs to go! I would like everything removed, […]

You call this expert bathroom fitting?

Ok then, a little vent is needed….A couple of years back I paid a small fortune to have our bathroom fitted by a local, well known company. They advertised themselves as quality and good service. Well I disagree rather! A few days ago British Gas kindly came out and unblocked my bath pipes. We had tried everything, the foamer gels, several bottles of bleach and the hair dissolving stuff for bathroom pipes. Nothing worked, so I phoned BG and a kind young chap was here the next afternoon. He tried the plunger etc like I had already, then decided the only thing to do was take off the side panel and disassemble the pipes to find the problem. No complaint at all with BG it’s just they were why I discovered the poor fitting. The side panel had been bodge fitted, was too large, so they had sawn some off […]

Christmas is like Marmite

Christmas is like Marmite, but I can’t decide if I love or hate it. On the love side I’m in love with the almost romantic idea of Christmas, family being together. Children getting presents, adults eating posh food and falling asleep during the Queen’s speech… advent calendars and decorated trees. Does all sound lovely….But in reality, I suck at Crimbo. I’ve no idea how to make it feel like Christmas anymore. Everything has got so commercial, spend spend SPEND. Kids all bragging on end of term about whose parents spent the most, and how big their tree is, and that their uncle Steve always gives them £30 in his card. Where is the love? Personally I struggle and we try really hard to afford nice things for the boys. This year by “couponing” we got D something on the top of his Xmas wish list (ransom note). It’s a Lego train […]

So glad he’s coming home now!

My other half is on the motorway driving back now. He’s been away since Sunday. It’s been a stressful 2 days, my boys have been arguing and fighting each other, last night Jen was ill so he was awake until about 2.30am which was fun, then this morning my dishwasher failed mid program. Now I have loads of half washed stuff and a dishwasher full of dirty water. No idea how I can empty it out now, even in stand by it makes a strange growly noise. Can’t even make it start another program, just will not go. Does anyone know anything about dishwashers? I could vlog (video blog) the problem and noise? Really can’t afford a new one after spending so much getting passports, suitcases, swimming shorts for the kids, train to from London, a hotel for Friday night etc. Why do things break when you can’t afford to repair/replace […]
