I first saw Cheeky Shoes at the sky dive. Susanne was wearing lovely purple ones and I had slight shoe envy. Then I realised that lots of bloggers had tried them, and I got in touch. Sadly the biggest size was a size 8 but I was assured there would be some stretch in this. When they arrived first impressions were “my word they are bright” and that they fitted through the letter box as promised. The packing is minimal and clever.
I love wildlife, and around here we get rather a variety if you are looking. Birds, badgers, foxes, hedgehogs, wild rabbits, mice, owls and bats are common here. I encourage it all, except the foxes. I like foxes from a distance, but as I have pet chickens and bunnies I don’t like them too close. Bats.org.uk has some handy tips on gardening for bats and making bat boxes. For attracting the cute fluffy wildlife you need shelter and food! Ideally hedges for something to hide in/under, and grass with native wild flowers as this is what they munch outside of your garden after all. I was recently asked if I would like to review JOHNSON’s baby easy rinse foaming shampoo with Jen. I know it’s called “baby” shampoo but I’ve been using it myself too, and it smells rather nice. It comes in a little pump action bottle that makes it foam lots like the hand-soap in public loos. Jen likes it mostly because it is fun, I like it because he wants to wash his hair! Until recently he was keen on being clean, baths, showers, paddling pools or hosepipes… he was not fussy.
This month my son D has been happily reading “Uncovering the prehistoric world – dinosaurs!” by Parragon books. We are part of Book Buddies, which means we get offered lovely books like this to review. From the second the postie handed this over it has been next to D’s bed. He loves factual books displaying the facts in fun ways. You wouldn’t catch him reading a dictionary, he likes some pictures to help his imagination. I thought I would ask him on film, my apologies for the poor lighting! (The noises are his Dad and Jen cooking in the kitchen.)
Today it’s raining on camp and my sons are in the back of the car (because it’s quieter than a tent in rain I suppose) reading books nicely. It’s a cute little scene but somewhat dominated by the weather. The books they are reading are “Things you never knew about dinosaurs” by Giles Paley-Phillips and “Goodnight little one” by Margaret Wise Brown.
I have been asked to review Beverly Hills Formula Perfect White toothpaste in standard and sensitive. I was pleased to get an email offering me samples of this as I’m a coffee addict and have sensitive teeth. I’m the perfect guinea pig for this actually. Then it dawned on me – how on earth do I photograph me brushing my own teeth? Why would anyone want to see my teeth? Here is an unflattering action shot of my teeth. The sensitive version is white opaque with blue dots, and the standard is translucent pale blue with blue dots. They both taste ok. Often specialist toothpastes that claim to do more than one thing taste awful in my opinion. What can I say, I’m fussy. But Beverly Hills Formula passes my taste test. At BritMums I met the Kelo-cote team, and they gave me a little sample. I then lost that, and they kindly offered me a second sample. Thanks guys! Kelo-cote gel is a skin repairing silicone gel. You dab it (not rub) over scars to reduce redness and the texture of scars. I tried it on several scars, I scar very easily so was spoilt for choice. This costs £29.99 for a 15 gram tube, or £89.99 for 60 grams. Yes I know that’s expensive, but it’s cheap if your scars upset your daily life. Before photos.
London is a very strange and beautiful city. Some really old buildings like St Paul’s cathedral, and then the ultra modern like the Shard. Nothing really fits in the capital, yet is this jumble-sale style mixture of architecture that make it what it is. I wouldn’t change it, personally I love London. London… Legoland style! The obvious “best view” place is the London eye, just towering above the Thames and County Hall below. A fave way to the capital is hop on a river boat, not one of those ferries, but a smaller company is often better. As for the commentary, priceless!
The lovely folks at B-Sensible have sent me another product to try out, and one for a Julie’s Notebook reader too. So read what we think, then try and win your own. These are sold singley rather than in pairs, which could be great for childrens beds. Whilst I wouldn’t think of packing a pillow case for travelling, it is a good idea. In hotels it often crosses my mind “I wonder when this was last washed, if ever?” The problem is I often end up sleeping face down, and accidentally sniffing where a total stranger has had their head isn’t a nice thing.
The lovely folks at MoneySuperMarket let me and my boys participate in another blogger challenge. Thanks guys, you are EPIC! #msmBigNightIn For this challenge they kindly wired (ok PayPal’ed) me Fifty Squids to spend on a family night in. We bought two retro board games that Blokey and I liked as kids, with the plan being fish and chips from the nice local takeaway. So at Blokey’s knocking-off time at work we phoned him to give him our dinner orders to get on his drive home. Jen wanted jumbo sausage and chips, Blokey, D and I all had haddock and chips. The fish was huge, too big, felt wasteful. And a bottle of coke, the real coke not an own brand version as its a treat.
Our garden is shocking, the soil quality in our area is pretty poor, but ours has building rubble mixed in. Not great for growing anything (except for those pesky weeds unfortunately) but I do keep trying. Over the years we have dug away some of our soil and binned it in “gardening green bins” so we could replace with better soil, mud, compost or whatever you want to call it. But it is still pretty poor. So poor most of the neighbours have given in and paved, patio’d or decked their gardens over. Not me, I like nature! As we keep chickens, rabbits and a guinea pig we do at least have free manure to add to our compost bins to make it richer, but the biggest issue is the clay that this area is built on. I have recently joined Collective Bias, or #CBias as it gets called on twitter. It is a shoppers programme where a few bloggers are chosen for each project, and then you have to plan and go shopping for a particular product, and photo it like crazy. I felt like a spy in Sainsburys. My Google+ photo album – my (not so) Top Secret mission! This mission was made for me, go and buy Diary Milk chocolate by Cadburys. Well it would be rude not to accept wouldn’t it? The mission was cookery, so I’ve had to bribe my partner in to cooking as I can burn salad me.
