Because we are book buddies the lovely people at Parragon books send us a book a month. This time it isn’t strictly a book, its more a craft set with a book of instructions. Dinogami is dinosaur origami. Its cute and at first I thought it looked more like a thing for Jen (age 5) and I to do together. But after page one of the instructions I quickly realised this was a mission for D (age 11) and Me. It comes with 20 sheets of pre-printed paper, so your dinos eyes and wings and things are all in the right places.

Recently we were sent Scooby Doo’s latest DVD… Ok, not that recently. Around Halloween we watched Scooby Doo Adventures – The Mystery Map. This is a new sort of Scooby Doo. It’s all puppets. Scooby Doo himself is super cute, but Daphne’s hair looks wrong to us, and a few other things don’t seem quite right. Maybe we are a little too old retro? The film lasts 3/4 of an hour, and is a about a search for a pirate treasure map, which has been snatched by “Phantom Parrot”. In classic SD style the phrase “I would have got away with it without you meddling kids!” is in there, and some other bits are on par with the original Hanna-Barbera cartoons. It’s not completely modernified. 🙂

Today Cancer Research UK are launching a video (below) to help the campaign for standardised packaging. That means removing the funky, bold, iconic and eye catching designs from fag packets because children respond to branding. I started smoking young, about 12 years old. I stuck to certain brands, pretty ones. So I do agree with this campaign, anything that makes children less likely to start smoking is a good thing. Why do I care about smoking cancers? I care because this killed my Grandad, Gramps, the man who was a dad to me. Killed by brightly coloured sticks of poison sold at the post office, the supermarket, even the sweet shop. I remember clearly my Gramps smoking, and telling me the dangers weren’t known when he started smoking as a young man. That he knew better now, but he was already a smoker for most of his life, why stop? […]

Tiny Me – Yay 12

Last night I went to dinner with Ionela and Ben from Tiny Me and a few other lovely bloggers. Tiny Me sell personalised items like name labels, lunch bags, wooden puzzles, wall decoration stickers, and calendars. The idea is you make a “Tiny Me” or computerised avatar of your child, then use this image on your personal items. You choose either an avatar or a theme like cars or wildlife, then colour options and the total combinations possible comes to millions according to Ben. I’ve not counted, but just bags have 11 styles, several fabric colours, thousands of possible avatars, or quite a few themes instead, and then you can still add any name, and change the background colours in the logo. My head hurts trying to guess wether the exact same combinations have ever been ordered by separate costumers.

Little Jen was pleased to be asked to listen to the Disney’s Planes movie sound track. He adores Disney Cars, and was really excited before the release of Disney Planes. It was due to start showing in cinemas whilst we were on holiday camping in Devon, so he INSISTED we took 3D glasses with us. We actually booked it online from a tent, that’s a new experience. He loved it, he was counting down the days until it was showing and then during the end credits he said “Sooooo when are we getting the DVD mum?” but I couldn’t give him a date to countdown to this time! Planes is about Dusty, a crop-dusting plane. He dreams of being a racing plane, like a farmers boy dreaming of being a F1 driver. He dreams of competing in a famous aerial race. The problem?
