Our lovely Freya woof was smelling a little funky, so when I saw Scruffy Chops wanted dog owner bloggers to review their range I put up Freya’s paw as a volunteer. Before I even opened the products up to sniff I liked the packaging. It’s those plastic bag type bottles that use a fraction of the plastic of normal bottles. The top flips open nicely, even with wet hands, and the bag-like bottle makes it easy to squeeze out a big dollop of shampoo or a delicate slowly dribbled line from head to tail if your hound prefers. I was tempted to use the conditioner myself, smells ace. I haven’t by the way…. So no jokes please. :-p The shampoo is “Sugar Doggy” and is £5.99 and the conditioner is called “Muddy Marvelous” which costs £6.99.

Our Freya Woof has “abandonment issues” following being dumped, and ending up stray. When she has company she’s super chilled out, except for the sudden bursts of playfulness. She only plays two or three times a day, and only a few minutes each time – its fair to say my hound is not energetic. The problem comes if we leave the room, or house! If it’s dinner time and we all go to the kitchen table she will probably follow us within five minutes – she doesn’t pinch dinner or even pull the “puppy dog” begging face, she just needs to know where her people (thats us) are. I can’t even peg the washing on the line in the back garden without her trying to chew or scratch her way through the back door, and she cries… Proper crying. She doesn’t stop until her people are back closeby.

Our loveable Freya Woof doesn’t really play much yet. Every now and then she gets all hyper and bouncy and it’s adorable to watch. She was sent two Kong xtreme products to try by Swell Pets. Puppy Kong chew toys are blue and white marbley colour, standard Kong’s are pillar box red, and the Kong xtremes are in black. The rubber in the xtreme range is rougher for heavy chewers or over excitable woofers. Freya needs the xtreme products as chewing is her bad habit, plastic cups and the kids teddies, the curtains and the door mat have all been chewed. Click to view video.

My Freya is settling in but does have a bad chewing habit. Plastic objects in particular, such as wheels from KNEX Jen forgot to put away, the dosing lids off of laundry soap liquid, and kids drinking tumblers. She’s a little monkey really. Whilst it’s very cute, it’s not great as it means I always have to watch her and can’t leave her home alone. I was advised by the Dogs trust she needs “indoor kennel training” which basically means allowing her to use a doggy cage in the house so it becomes normal, just another bit of furniture. I disliked the idea of cages, or crates as they’re called now, but it makes sense with a dog like Freya. She likes to nest and bury herself in blankets or the kids coats or anything she can grab that’s fabric and she could nest in a crate. Her issue is […]

As I’ve possibly mentioned a few times, Freya Woof comes home tomorrow. YAY! I think she’s adorable, gentle and friendly. The Kennel Clubs and pedigree Saluki breeders say she’s “unacceptable”. She can’t be a real Saluki as her colour is Brindle. Ohh whoa is me, my woofers is a non-permitted colour, banned by kennel clubs across the globe. *sarcastic face* Dog Worlds post on this. The UK Kennel club. Northern Saluki Club, see third paragraph. The examiner have a good story on the Saluki controversy. On other dog sites I’ve read things about Saluki’s being culled murdered as puppies. 🙁

Yesterday I had the “Home Visit” from dogs trust. The final step to adopting Freya, my lovely and friendly but underweight and nervous girlie. She either ran away or was dumped, abandoned, discarded like rubbish. My opinion is she was abandoned. Her personality is sweet and caring, but she’s so afraid and cries her little heart out if she’s alone. If utterly alone she chews furniture and dogs trust phoned me to request a meeting a few days ago as she had chewed a large plastic dog bed, apparently it was merely a brightly coloured mangled mess and no longer a bed. I can’t see a runaway being bothered like that about being alone. The staff call it separation anxiety, and as I hate being alone, and also worry about being abandoned, I understand her a little. Jen and D received a lovely retro gift in the post thanks to Oxfam. It is a boxed set of glass “days-gone-by” marbles, although marbles aren’t modern, and unlikely to appeal to the 3DS generation my lads like them. On our recent holiday to Devon Jen wanted to buy marbles from every little gift shop we went near. As we were camping we refused to buy any, as we knew if they were lost camping in the woods there would be many tears and sniffling. When these marbles came Jen was very pleased, “Ooooooh these are them things I wanted to buy in Devon Mum!” Although we’ve had these in the house for over a week life gets in the way sometimes, parents evenings, dog adoptions, play dates with little friends, and we’ve just got around to playing with them – sorry Oxfam.   Like me you might have been unaware […]

At BritMums I met the Kelo-cote team, and they gave me a little sample. I then lost that, and they kindly offered me a second sample. Thanks guys! Kelo-cote gel is a skin repairing silicone gel. You dab it (not rub) over scars to reduce redness and the texture of scars. I tried it on several scars, I scar very easily so was spoilt for choice. This costs £29.99 for a 15 gram tube, or £89.99 for 60 grams. Yes I know that’s expensive, but it’s cheap if your scars upset your daily life. Before photos.

When I read that MoneySuperMarket wanted to give bloggers £30 to spend on a local charity, I jumped at the chance. The idea is us bloggers get a budget of £30 (given to us by MoneySuperMarket for this challenge) but we have to try to buy more than £30’s worth of gifts or items that your local charity would like. Maximum benefit of the cash if you like!
