In the last few years Fox attacks are seemingly on the rise. Or at least the number of times the media get hold of these stories is on the rise.The recent BBC news story It seems that foxes are attacking unguarded babies and occasionally sleeping adults. There is a pattern to it from the stories I have read. It’s always in cities, the urban fox rather than the free range variety. It’s often a baby, and it doesn’t bite just anywhere… It goes for limbs. Hands, arms, feet. Not trying to be gross but its like it knows limbs are easier to remove and is that starving that its worth the risks of entering a house for “food”. After having chickens for a few months I have no lawn left, and what was my veggie bed is a muddy puddle! It’s clear veggies aren’t an option this growing season, all edible things are munched, so I need sturdy stubborn plants, the kind that re grow each year. On the left there, that was my veg bed, and on the right was a lawn! Thanks chickens. I was looking for fruit trees, and just bought some from GardeningExpress website, via groupon as there was a good deal. Five fruit trees, normally £100 was £30 plus £7 postage. I know you can get supermarket trees at certain times of the year, they buy them in and put near the fruit shelves, and there is a reason they are cheap. My Smartie Pants 3

Just having a proud Mummy moment. D is super smart as I’ve mentioned before. On Friday he came home with a medal. The wording on the medal does not give much away, “The Maths Olympics”.So I ask D about it, “Yeah Mum, those maths tests earlier on at school where we competed against each other? Do you remember?” Turns out two children got medals, the smartest at school again. Careful the wind doesn’t change…!  Here he is, the clever one. Hehe. With his medal!

These three lovely ladies are off to Ghana to check out the work Comic Relief have been doing. It’s comic reliefs 25th birthday this year so good timing for a blogger party. I’m supporting them, and I’ve asked for a digital post card. Snow has nearly gone 1

The snow is nearly all gone now, melted completely on paths and roads. Strangely it seems to have gotten colder rather than warmer. The boys say it’s not cold but it is! The thermometer on my phone agrees with me, not the children, that it is actually ruddy cold. A few nights this week I’ve slept with my jumper on in bed. Bbbrrr! I give up, I know it’s barely half past five but I think it’s pyjamas time. Please snow… Move along.

Well it’s snowing outside and it’s currently circling and swirling in the wind. This blizzard that’s predicted might actually happen. Sadly the boys school was one of just two primary schools that didn’t close. Just waiting for the “please pick children up early” text message now. It’s pretty likely as I noticed several teachers were missing. The boys were disappointed. Anyway, cute animals in the snow photos time! Frozen chickens and a chilly bunny. Cute bunny, he’s put himself in chicken run, he is actually free range today.

I have just been reading this week about Meghan. A girl who was killed when her dresser, or chest of draws as we’d call it, fell on her. It really shocked me and got my attention. My boys have had their book shelf fall on them! Seems my boys were lucky. It’s eight years since her death and to mark the anniversary her mother, Kimberly, wrote some very long, thoughtful and moving posts. This post explains in detail what happened, and has photos of the furniture. Thing is it looks sturdy, solid, and harmless. Be with me just for today…. it’s utterly heartbreaking, yet beautiful. I just read a blog post on BritMums asking parent bloggers to say what our children do or would do, with pocket money. So here is my entry for the BritMums and pktmny blog challenge linky.For D it’s always the same, his pocket money goes into his bank via standing order each week and he saves until he’s reached his goal. The main thing he saves up for is Lego. D is obsessed with Lego, but only likes certain ranges….the lad knows what he wants! Normally when he’s just short of the RRP of the model he wants we have to check in local shops,  then Google to make sure it’s a good deal. Review, Red Rover and other games from Mattel

I was lucky enough to be sent 3 board games by and Mattel. I use the word board loosely, as there was no board, but you know what I mean. I’m going to start by talking about Red Rover (£21.99 at Toys r us) I was honestly expecting this game to be a bit boring and the kids to not be interested. I was wrong! apparently it has been advertised on children’s tv and my youngest (aged 4) actually nicked it. I had put it in my room, and was going to wait for a quiet time and check it out myself first, then have the boys play with it. No chance! He wanted it a lot.

Christmas is like Marmite, but I can’t decide if I love or hate it. On the love side I’m in love with the almost romantic idea of Christmas, family being together. Children getting presents, adults eating posh food and falling asleep during the Queen’s speech… advent calendars and decorated trees. Does all sound lovely….But in reality, I suck at Crimbo. I’ve no idea how to make it feel like Christmas anymore. Everything has got so commercial, spend spend SPEND. Kids all bragging on end of term about whose parents spent the most, and how big their tree is, and that their uncle Steve always gives them £30 in his card. Where is the love? Helping Charity for a few clicks?

After all the recent fuss about photos of sick kids on facebook I wanted to write something positive, to try to encourage sharing in a good way. If you have managed to avoid this new craze of pimping out photos for as many “Likes and shares” as they can get, then consider yourself lucky. I’m all for helping ill children, and there are lovely sites out there like Post Pals, where you write a letter or send a present to a child via a lovely team of people, so the child’s home address never gets made public. Or you could have a look around on Just Giving for people doing sponsored things to raise money for charities. Or you could even start an event, do a sponsored walk, sitting in a bath of baked beans, or having your hair shaved / dyed ludicrous colours in the hopes of getting charity funds. Or […]

Old Macdonalds camping, not going well.

Well it didn’t take long. Been here since Sunday and its gone wrong! Leaving Gloucester and trying to load the car up on Sunday was hindered and delayed by constant heavy rain and thunder. When we arrived here was rain showers and a bit windy. Made pitching our 6 person vango tent somewhat awkward. We got over that and got the tent up despite the English summer! We decided the extension canopy/awning would wait until Monday. The last 2 years in a row we’ve come here there has been a bunch of brats… I mean teenage children, that heckle my other half. Last year their name for him was potato, this year its wiffy. This sounds juvenile and pathetic, which of course it is, but I find it near impossible to ignore them.
